“Third time’s the charm” Preview
By: U.K. Boxing Writer Robert Massey
On Saturday the 21st Of Jan in Liverpool Olympia David Price (11-0, 9 KO’s) Olympic bronze medallist and John McDermott (26-7, 17 KO’s) former British title challenger will fight it out for the vacant English Title, which is also a British Title Eliminator. This is the 3RD attempt to make this fight happen between McDermott and Price. McDermott had the flu back in June and Price injured his ribs back in November.
Price starts as the heavy favourite for this fight and is thought to be a fighter capable of taking on the Klitschko’s within a year or so. He stands at 6’8 and weighs in at 244 pounds and is a formidable puncher. Price is coming into the fight on the back of a 2nd round KO of Tom Dallas who was (15-0, 11 KO’s) before the fight. The only question that remains unanswered is, can he take a punch. Hopefully Big Bad John McDermott can ask this question as he is coming into the fight on the back of a sensational first round knockout of Olubamiwo and he should ask some questions of Price.
The winner of this fight will hopefully fight Tyson Fury for the British title, but to be honest I do not think that Fury or Mick Hennessey will go anywhere near Price, as I predict an early KO win for Price and will be too strong for a unskilled boxer like Fury. I believe Price will continue his rise up the world rankings and go on and fight for a World Title sometime next year and trust me when I say, this boy will be more than a match for the Klitschko’s with a few more fights under his belt.
