Jezreel Corrales Scores WBA Upset of the Year in Tokyo

San Miguelito, Panama (April 27, 2015)–  Confusing orthodox and southpaw super featherweight Jazreel Corrales scored the upset of the year of 2016 so far, Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at Ota-City General Gymnasium, in Tokyo, Japan. Corrales, 20-1 with eight knockouts, San Miguelito, Panama. Corrales ascended to the position of number one ranked super featherweight in the world, thanks to his second round knockout of six year world champion Takashi ‘KO Dynamite’ Uchiyama, now 24-1-1 with 20 knockouts, Tokyo, Japan, to win the World Boxing Association Super World Super Featherweight championship. Uchiyama was fighting in his fourteenth consecutive WBA world title bout.

 

Corrales, the interim WBA World champion, came into Tokyo and was not to be denied. Corrales knocked down Uchiyama three times in round 2, finally finished him off at 2:59. Corrales made weight on the second attempt, then gained substantial weight for power advantage, and then began his barrage of power shots from both stances. Uchiyama said he was unable to see the punches coming in. Corrales stated after the bout he was not looking for a knockout.
