Las Vegas, NV (May 3rd, 2024)– Premier Boxing Champions Pay-Per-View, Canelo Promotions, Panama Telemetro Channel 13, DAZN will present an eleven bout card of boxing on Cinco de Mayo, Saturday, May 4, 2024, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vega, Nevada, featuring undisputed World Super Middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez defending his titles against top rated challenger Jaime Munguia in the main event.
Alvarez, 60-2-2 with 39 knockouts, Guadalajara, Mexico, age 33, is predicted to win by 12 round majority decision over Munguia, 43-0 with 34 knockouts, age 27, Tijuana, Mexico, the current World Boxing Council Silver Super Middleweight champion. Canelo stands 5’8 ½ feet tall to Munguia’s six foot high frame. Canelo must work his way inside against a taller opponent with superior reach advantage Rocky Marciano style. Munguia lacks Canelo’s vast ring experience against top flight opponents. Since nobody apparently wanted to fight Munguia for a world title at 160 pounds after he conquered `154 pounds, Munguia has nothing to lose by taking on Canelo. Alvarez is getting older, and Munguia could be one of the final top flight opponents Canelo faces.

Canelo is predicted to win because his worldwide recognition and name advantage is his edge in an otherwise close bout which could go either way on the scorecards. Knockdowns will affect scoring. Expect Canelo and Munguia to fight a cautious bout. Munguia holds the key to the game plan, and could open up and turn this underestimated bout into a toe to toe slugfest war. Canelo would not benefit from such a game plan, and would be wise to remain on the outside and land well-timed jabs and power shots. The win in this bout will go to the fight who controls the ring and dictates the tempo. Canelo has the edge in ring generalship. Munguia has the edge in power. A technical war could be a seesaw battle, and Canelo might have to change his game plan midstream if he is unsuccessful in cutting off the ring and keeping the giant Munguia away. Munguia will be laying caution to the wind if he takes the bout to Canelo, and he will try to do it. Canelo has to keep moving, not stand in front of Munguia, and not get caught along the ropes against a bigger hitter.
In the preliminary bout to the main event, Brandon Figueroa, 24-1-1 with 18 knockouts, Weslaco, Texas, is predicted to retain his World Boxing Council Interim World Featherweight title by unanimous decision on eleventh round knockout over Jessie Magdaleno, 29-2 with 18 knockouts, Henderson, Nevada, in an entertaining war. The southpaw Madaleno has been knocked down five times total against Raymond Ford and Isaac Dogboe in his two losses, and knocked out late. Magdaleno’s durability will depend on which version of Magdaleno shows up. In any case, Figueroa has his work cut out for him, and will have to work hard to outpoint Magdaleno, who could prove a tough go.
