MAYWEATHER VS. GOTTI 3 TURNS INTO A BRAWL!

By Robert Brizel, Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

SUNRISE, Fla.(June 12th, 2023)–For five and a half rounds, Floyd Mayweather Jr. dominated John Gotti III in their exhibition at Fla Live Arena in Sunrise, Florida, on Sunday, June 11, 2023. Referee Kenny Bayless, struggling to separate the two trash talking combatants, stopped the bout, waving the contest off with a “That’s It!” around the two minutes mark of the sixth round.

Gotti then went around the referee, disregarded the referee’s decision to stop the exhibition bout, and attacked Floyd with a flurry of punches with Floyd’s back to the ropes. In a scene worthy of Riddick Bowe versus Andrew Golota, the ring descended into ongoing mayhem and madness. At one point, Floyd sat atop the post in his own corner celebrating. The wild and crazy fighting inside the ring forced Floyd to leave his lookout perch, and Team Gotti, Team Mayweather, and ring security were unable to stop the numerous confrontations and fights inside the ring. While Floyd may no longer be fighting world title bouts, this entire exhibition was a cruel joke. While Gotti may have a few professional boxing and MMA bouts under his belt, he is no Floyd.

Floyd remains restless in retirement, and for those spectators who paid to see this crap, that’s what is was, crap. Floyd remained a gentleman inside the ring, while John Gotti III behaved like he was his grandfather, the late John Gotti, and made for a mess as the mafia from both corners went at it. Perhaps the only good thing to say is the fighting inside the ring after Floyd versus Gotti ended was much better than the barf bag exhibition Floyd fought with Gotti which preceded the inside the ring brawl which followed.

This reporter notes Floyd versus Gotti was a mismatch from the start. Fight fans at attention. You wanted controversy, you got it. The sun rises over Sunrise, Florida, where Floyd versus Gotti took place. The sun sets over Sunrise, Florida too. In any case, neither Floyd nor John Gotti III appear to be possible challengers in the near future at 147 pounds for the world title belts of Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford or Errol Spence Jr. Floyd still appears restless and bored in retirement. If Floyd were to attempt a real combat, as Manny Pacquiao may soon do, that would be of interest. It’s sort of like Rocky Balboa versus Hulk Hogan. Floyd’s exhibitions still do not make any sense, but then again, maybe they are not supposed to.
