Ricky Hatton and Marco Barrera Battle to Eight Round No Decision in Manchester
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Manchester, UK (November 13th, 2022)– On Saturday evening, November 12th, 2022, old friends and rivals Ricky Hatton and Marco Antonio Barrera, made their final ring appearances, battled to an eight-round no decision at the middleweight limit, tow minute rounds, in which Hatton, 44, appeared to just outpoint Barrera, 48, in Hatton’s return to Manchester Arena in Manchester, United Kingdom.
Hatton, ten years removed from his last ring appearance, survived with a bruised right check, to give Barrera a run for his money. Probably the ring walk of ‘The Hitman’ was his best moment of the night, to the sound of his noted ‘Blue Moon’ theme song. Both parties emerged and emerged from the exhibition in fine shape. Both legendary world champions displayed the skills which made them famous, with 121 wins between the two of them, but their final ring return lacked any sort of vicious venom intent to hurt the other person.
More noteworthy was the appearance of Natasha Jonas, who defeated Marie-Eve Dicaire to become the unified female World Boxing Council, World Boxing Organisation, and International Boxing Federation WBO and IBF World Super welterweight champion on the Manchester Card.
