Olivier Mercier Scores Real Combat Media MMA KO of the Month, Wins PFL World Title

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

New York, NY (November 27th, 2022)– In an event billed as MMA’s richest night, on Friday, November 25, 2022,  at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden New York City on ESPN+ Pay-Per-View, Olivier Aubin-Mercier scored the Real Combat Media MMA knockout of the month of November 2022, with his devastating one punch vicious and brutal knockout of Steven ‘Braveheart’ Ray in the Professional Fighter’s League PFL Lightweight MMA championship bout to win the PFL World Lightweight championship and take home the one million dollars grand prize.

Mercier, AKA ‘The Canadian Gangster’, had a strong first round, but did not have a good time of it during the second round of the bout after Ray threw him to the ring mat, and attempted to gain a submission hold. Mercier spent most of the second round on the floor under grappling attack, being controlled by Ray and fighting off the holds to eventually break free.

Upon regaining his feet, Mercier, 17-5 with two knockouts and eight submissions, Boucherville, Canada, out of the H20 MMA / Tristar Gym, suddenly blasted Ray, 25-11 with six knockouts and nine submissions, Kirkcaldy, Scotland, Higher Level MMA / Dinky Ninjas, with a short powerful George Foreman style overhand right hook at extreme close range and knocked him Ray cold. It was evident from the punch that Ray completely underestimated Mercier’s power to be able to suddenly put him away. Ray was far too vulnerable to stand in front of Mercier. The coup de grace did not come in with particular speed. The right hook punch from Mercier did come in point blank to Ray’s jaw pinpoint accurate, and it evidently had more force on it than Ray or anybody in attendance had expected from the underdog.

Noted Mercier after the bout, “It was crazy. (It was) a crazy experience! A little check hook on the side (by me ended our championship bout). I saw he was a little bit tired, and I just slipped him (caught him by surprise) with the hook (shot). Next time, I want to bring the PFL to Montreal (the next big PFL event to my home country of Canada). I think people (MMA fans would be open to the idea) want that, too.”
