Maxi Hughes Defeats Kid Galahad In the UK – Video Highlights

Yorkshire, UK (September 25th, 2022)– Saturday at DAZN Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing in the Main Event IBO Lightweight champion Maxi “Maximus” Hughes defeated former IBF Featherweight champion Kid Galahad by majority decision.

In the Main Event IBO Lightweight champ southpaw Maxi “Maximus” Hughes, 26-5-2 (5), #134.4, of Rossington, Yorkshire, UK, defeated by majority decision over Kid Galahad, 28-3 (17), #134.7, of Qatar and Sheffield, Yorkshire, UK, over 12 rounds.

In the first four rounds Galahad was the aggressor outworking Hughes. From the fifth through the seventh rounds Hughes came back to outland Galahad. In the eighth round Galahad continued switching from orthodox to southpaw against Hughes.

In the ninth round, Hughes landed a lead left to the chin knocking back the head of Galahad. Galahad was warned for using his elbow during a clinch by referee McDonnell. In the tenth round, Galahad continued coming forward getting countered by Hughes.

In the eleventh round, Hughes was bleeding from a cut from a clash of heads. In the twelfth and final round, Hughes may have done enough to pull out the win.

HARPER BECOMES WORLD CHAMPION AGAIN WITH DOMINANT WIN AGAINST RANKIN

Terri Harper produced the performance of her career to become a world champion at super-welterweight with a victory against Hannah Rankin. Despite moving up in weight, Harper proved she belonged in the ring with Rankin, and she was punch perfect from the first bell. After building an early lead, Harper took over in the fight’s second half to become world champion with scores of 98-92 x 2 and 97-93. A rematch with Natasha Jonas could be huge in 2023.

DACRES GOES THE DISTANCE AGAINST BRACAMONTE

The ring education of Sol Dacres continued as he went ten rounds for the first time against Ariel Bracamonte. Dacres was the better fighter for large portions, and although he received several warnings from the referee, he still stayed in control to take the fight 99-90 on all the judges’ scorecards. Bigger tests are ahead for Dacres, but he’ll be satisfied to go ten rounds.

2020 Olympian Cheavon Clarke continued his march up the rankings with a stoppage win against Marcos Karalitzky. The tough Argentine gave the bout everything, but Clarke’s power was too much, and the fight was halted in the fourth session.
