Tyson Fury Oleksandr Usyk

FURY VS. USYK UPDATES & OTHER RCM INTERNATIONAL HEAVYWEIGHT NEWS

Editorial By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

London, UK (September 3rd, 2022)– In a new interview with talkSPORT, WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO World Heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk called Tyson Fury crazy, with ethnic overtones, stating, “I want the (Tyson Fury’s World Heavyweight World Boxing Council) WBC title. It was captured by the gypsies, some kind of king. We don’t know what Tyson has in his head. Everyone knows that this (Tyson Fury) is a very crazy guy. I would really like this fight to happen next year (in 2023).”

Fury responded in unpleasant kind in a response video on social media: “Usyk, (you are a) middleweight. You say you want the WBC and it’s held by gypsies. It is held by gypsies (me). It’s held by The Gypsy King, and it’s held tightly, grasped tight, and all roads lead to a seven-foot behemoth (me) that will absolutely destroy you middleweight. Middleweight, you will get smashed to bits! You say you wanted to fight me after you beat the bodybuilder, called me out on television. Now, you’re being a little bitch pussy boy, running, hiding, (and) saying you’ve got injuries. You ain’t got no injuries! You had a sparring contest (with Anthony Joshua). Get out and fight in December (with me this year), you let your mouth go, (and) now let’s see if you can back it up (you little shrimp) middleweight!”

Usyk then ruled out an immediate unification bout in 2022. “Fighting Tyson Fury in December (2022) is impossible. First, I have old injuries (which require time to heal). Second, I just don’t want to box in December. I haven’t left the gym for half a year. I want to be with my children, (and) my family. Boxing can wait a little. Next year I think it will happen (my unification bout with Fury).” Top Rank is rumored to be working on the Tyson Fury-Oleksandr Usyk unification bout for 2023 in the Middle East.

In Fury’s latest new callout, trash talking Mahmoud Charr, running his mouth off, jump started more heavyweight trash talk.  Tyson Fury is contemplating facing Charr as well, after ‘Diamond Boy’ Charr called him out on Instagram Friday night. “Tyson Fury take the fight. I’m ready, I challenge you. Take my challenge. I’m ready for you. No excuses!” said Charr on Instagram. Tyson responded “Diamond Boy, I’ve got a certain little middleweight (Usyk) I’ve gotta put that fist through first. However, if he don’t want no smoke, you (Charr) can surely get it (me). Pressure will break (your) diamonds!” Fury had been vocal of recent about the possibility of fighting UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.

All this has left disciplined Usyk, his country Ukraine still in the midst of war, who holds the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO belts, with no promise of an imminent big money unification bout with WBC heavyweight titleholder Fury. Ex-WBC champion Deontay Wilder, who has lost his trilogy bout with Fury, is getting ready for Robert Helenius, who beat pudgy Adam Kownacki twice. Felip Hrgovic, fresh off his IBF elimination bout win over Zhilei Zhang, could also be next for Usyk as the IBF mandatory challenger. Undefeated Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller, active again with two comeback wins after coming off suspension, could be next for anybody, if he steps up to a world class opponent.

Highly rated Briton Joe Joyce is getting ready for Joseph Parker, with the high stakes WBC Silver, WBO International and WBO Inter Continental belts at stake. Martin Bakole, fresh off his impressive win over Tony Yoka, is available. Undefeated but untested Ali Eren Demirezen, fresh off his win over fading Adam Kownacki, is available. Daniel Dubois, fresh off his win over Trevor Bryan for the WBA regular heavyweight belt, is available.  Undefeated Cuban Frank Sanchez, with recent wins over Efe Ajagba and Christian Hammer, is available. Otto Wallin, fresh off a win over Rydell Booker, is available. Comebacking ex-champ Charles Martin will fight Devin Vargas in Los Angeles shortly. Zhan Kossobutskiy, Murat Gassiev, Stephan Shaw, Ivan Dychko, and Agit Kabayel have recent wins and are available. Former IBO cruiserweight champion Kevin Larena will face faded contender Mariusz Wach in South Africa in Mid-September. The “Russian Lion”, Arslanbek Makhmudov will face Carlos Takam, and Simon Kean will face Newfel Ouatah at Montreal Casino in Montreal, Canada, in two major Mid-September 2022 heavyweight bouts.

Despite losing to Tyson Fury in April 2022, Dillian Whyte could still return as the next candidate to challenge Usyk. Also available for Usyk is undefeated Cuban Frank Sanchez, Hughie Fury with three recent wins, heavyweight contender Michael Hunter (inactive since drawing with Jerry Forrest in 2021) or Charles Martin if he gets by Vargas. if Usyk does not fight WBA regular champion Daniel Dubois. Joe Joyce, if he beats Parker, would also be a great challenge for Usyk. Anthony Joshua, who lost twice to Oleksandr Usyk and lost the other four heavyweight belts, is due to get back into the game with a return bout in 2023, perhaps with one of the big names already discussed on an Eddie Hearn Matchroom boxing card.
