Kiev, Ukraine (March 2, 2022)– Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko, the sons of a Russian Major General, remain encircled by Russian troops in their city of Kiev, Ukraine, a situation impossible for civilians to evacuate. According to Vitali, “To be honest, we don’t have 100% control.” We built this territorial defense in a short amount of time, but these are patriotic people. Right now, the most important question (consideration) is to defend our country,”
In the sixth day of war, a Russian Federation military convoy 40 miles long headed into the heart of Ukraine to finish the war in progress. While the city of Kiev and its soldiers and volunteers fought back, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zeletsky agreed to a meeting without preconditions on the border of Ukraine and Belarus, stating he didn’t expect a breakthrough but he wanted his people to have no doubts that he sincerely tried to stop the war in progress when there was only a slim chance of an immediate ceasefire. The city of Kharkov was under intense shelling, and a Russian air attack on Ukraine was anticipated by day’s end.
According to The Washington Post, the European Union said it was closing its airspace to Russian aircraft. The EU also said it would finance Ukrainian weapons purchases. EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell called the decision by the bloc’s 27 foreign ministers to provide 502 million worth of arms, and 56 million in non-lethal assistance to Ukraine, a defining moment for European history. Meanwhile, Russian anti-war protesters are taking to the streets in the cities of the Russian Federation Russia on Sunday to voice their opposition to the Russian military invasion of Ukraine. The Russian Ruble plunged to only a value of one cent on the open market. Despite hundreds of arrests daily, and nearly 3,000 total since the invasion began, demonstrators held signs and marched through the centers of cities from Moscow to St. Petersburg, chanting no to war, in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs said Sunday that more than 350 civilians, 14 of them children, had been killed during the current Russian invasion. Another 1,684 civilians, including 116 children, had been wounded. Vitali Klitschko, Wladimir Klitschko, and Vasyl Lomachenko are among Ukrainian boxers fighting in combat on the front lines.
Ukrainian military defensive forces continued to hold Kiev Monday afternoon and evening as Russian forces tried to take the Ukrainian capital by force. The United Nations Security Council voted on a resolution calling for an immediate end to the Ukrainian-Russian conflict. The Russian Federation remained on high nuclear alert, in anticipation of possible military retaliation by western powers.
On their cellphones, the Klitschkos said their goodbyes, in anticipation of a tomorrow residents of Kiev might not reach.
