Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported Monday, March 21, 2022, eight civilians were killed as a result of shelling on the Retroville Kyiv Shopping Mall Centre late Sunday, March 20, 2022. A devastating explosion from the shelling leveled the popular Kyiv mall, and shattered all the windows in a high-rise building next door, twisting the metal window frames.
Mayor Klitschko also reported nearby schools and kindergartens were also damaged, and warned residents to avoid the immediate area, due to the air pollution caused by the fires. Kiev and Mariupol are the Ukrainian cities now under siege.
Kyiv continues to hold out, one month into the Ukrainian conflict with the Russian Federation special forces, who are now attempting to surround the remaining defenders and residents of Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, once home to nearly three million people.
