Klitschko Brothers Remain Angry Defiant at Kyiv Press Conference, Ukrainian Military Surrounds Russian Forces After Kyiv Counterattack

Kyiv, Ukraine (March 25th, 2022)– In a new press conference held outdoors in Kyiv, Mayor Vitali Klitschko and his brother Wladimir Klitschko, both former world heavyweight champions, remained defiant and angry, as Ukrainian s soldiers and freedom fighters continued to recapture key areas surrounding the capital of Kyiv, and continued to force Russian Military Special Forces into an increasingly defensive posture.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko began the press conference with “Please can you give to us which one solution we have to give (the Russian Federation). Which compromise to give up a part of Ukrainian territory? Just one compromise? And one solution? I’m sorry I am not involved in the negotiation process, where everybody hopes it will be fine diplomatically, but I don’t know which compromise we can find. To give up part of our Ukrainian territory? To give (up) our city (cities)? It’s not (possible) with Russians bombing our cities.”

His brother, Wladimir Klitschko continued “How much evidence of war crimes (committed do) you want to see when civilians (are) killed? Over 300 children have been injured and killed. How much more (do) you want to see and support, and not isolate Russia (from the rest of the world economically)? Because every cent that is going to the Russian budget is going to be used for weapons that are killing (innocent Ukrainian people) today, killing (innocent) people literally today, and in the past week (killing) our men, women and children? How much more of a war crime do you want to see, when even you are not safe here (the journalists and photographers) when you are standing here?”

Despite ongoing missile strikes, Ukrainian generals Andrea Kryshenko and Serhii Knyazev said significant territory around Kyiv had been recaptured by Ukrainian Forces from Russian Military Special Forces in the past 48 hours, a potential sign the tide of battle could be shifting as Russian forces continue to struggle to advance on the country’s capital. A United States defense official corroborated the claim, saying the Russian military had pushed from the east to as close as 12 miles from Kyiv, but after losing to the counteroffensive, Russian forces had retreated to about 34 miles away from the city. However, Ukrainian soldiers continue to struggle in maintaining defenses in the southern city of Mariupol still under Russian Military Special Forces attack, where over one hundred thousand civilians remain trapped in the rubble. Aerial bombardments have continued.

Leonid Polyakov, Ukraine’s former vice minister of defense, stated after the Kyiv counteroffensive, If Ukraine had indeed surrounded Russian Federation Military Special Forces, the situation would allow Ukraine to cut off Russian supply lines, discourage Belarus from joining Putin’s fight, and would take a huge toll on the invaders’ morale. “They will have just two options, either die or surrender,” Polyakov said of Russian forces who may be surrounded in areas near Kyiv. “We will continue killing them until they surrender.”

To make matters worse for the fading Russian military, the Ukrainian Navy sunk a large Russian landing ship near the port city of Berdyansk in southern Ukraine, preventing Russian forces from resupplying troops at the Russian-seized city west of Mariupol. The now abandoned vessel, called the Orsk, burned out of control in the port. As the ship burned, two other supply ships were seen leaving port with fires burning on them.
