Legend of Roccia del PiaveItalian Heavyweight Giuseppe Ros, Olympic Bronze Medalist, Dies at 79

 Susegana, Italy (February 18th, 2022)–  Known as “The Legend of The Rocce del Piave”, sixty bout Italian heavyweight boxing veteran Giuseppe “Bebi” Ros, Italian Heavyweight Military amateur champion in 1963, who won the Olympic Heavyweight Bronze medal for Italy at the XVIII Olympiad in Tokyo, Japan, in 1964, has died in his native Susegana, Italy, at Vittorio Veneto Hospital, of COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus at age 64, on February 17, 2022.

 After the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Giuseppe Ros turned pro, and posted a professional record of 42-16-2 in 60 pro bouts with 24 knockouts, between March 1964 and December 1976. Roz opened his career 14-0, and went 18-2 in his first 20 pro bouts. After losing three consecutive bouts, Ros then won 19 of 22 bouts, earning a shot at the European Heavyweight title.

 Ros lost a 15 round decision to defending European Heavyweight champion Joe Bugner at Royal Albert Hall in Kensington, United Kingdom, on October 2, 1973.  Ros also lost an eight-round decision for the vacant Italian Heavyweight title to future

European Heavyweight champion Lorenzo Zanon in Milan, Italy, on March 14, 1975. After scoring four wins and two draws, Ros lost seven of his last eight pro bouts, including losing an eight-round decision to future European Heavyweight champion Alfredo Evangelista at Palacio de los Deportes, in Madrid, Spain, on April 4, 1975. Ros did win an eight-round decision over former European Heavyweight champion Jose Manuel Urtain in Madrid in 1975, which led to the bout with Evangelista, but consecutive decision losses to Mike Schutte(Lost 10), Dante Cane for the Italian Heavyweight title (Los 12), and Alfio Righetti (Lost 8) ended his career at age 34 in 1976.

In later years, Ros was a local restaurateur, where he ran his restaurant with his wife Maria. Ros is survived by his wife Maria, and daughters Mary and Patrizia.
