Revenge is Sweet! Yarde Uses Short Punch Attack to Finish Arthur in 4 Rounds

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

London, UK (December 5th, 2021)– Revenge is Sweet. In the main event of a ten bout card at Copper Box Arena, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Hackney Wick, London, United Kingdom, Anthony Yarde revenged a previous December 2020 12 round split decision loss with a fourth-round knockout of Lyndon Arthur to win the Commonwealth British Empire and World Boxing Organisation Inter-Continental Light Heavyweight regional titles, on Saturday, December 4, 2021.

Yarde, 22-1 with 21 knockouts, Ilford, Essex, United Kingdom, closed the show in dramatic fashion with pinpoint punching at short range on Arthur, now 19-1 with 13 knockouts, Manchester, Lancashire, United Kingdom. It appeared a right hand to Arthur’s left side of the rib cage rattled him, and Arthur settled onto the ropes without trying to run or escape. This enabled Yarde to work the body solar plexus and head with a variety of short power shots hooks, and uppercuts with rapidly wilted Arthur through the ropes of the canvas, down and out, slumped over the bottom rope sticking out of the ring, and counted out on one knee at 1:27 of the fourth round, in an anticlimactic ending from a right to the head. A combination of body shots from Yarde broke Arthur down, who allowed Yarde to close the show with a clinical short range game and totally broke Arthur down at close quarters.

Promoter Frank Warren now says Yarde, who lost several family members during the Coronavirus Pandemic, will get a world title shot in 2022 against the winner of World Boxing Organisation World Light Heavyweight champion Joe Smith Jr. versus Callum Johnson. Revenge is sweet, and for Anthony Yarde, the last 12 months has been, in a sports sense “The Longest Yarde”. While revenge is sweet, it appears more so Yarde has reached his light heavyweight prime at age 30. The second Tarde-Arthur bout, in view of its end, was not a close bout worthy of a return trilogy.

Result: Anthony Yarde KO 4 Lyndon Arthur, Light Heavyweights (1:27). Referee: Bob Williams. Yarde kayoed Arthur with a right to head in a volley of punches. Yarde wins Commonwealth British Empire Light Heavyweight and WBO Inter-Continental Light Heavyweight titles.
