Bagrat Oghanian, Armenian Bronze Medalist at 2000 Europe Championship, Dies at 40

 Las Vegas, NV (December 2oth, 2021)– Bagrat Oghanian, of Gyumri, Armenia, best known for winning the super heavyweight bronze medal in the 200 European Amateur Boxing Championships held at Tampere, Finland, has died at age 40. No cause of death was stated by news media sources.

 After concluding his amateur career, Oghanian turned pro in the United States in 2002. After relocating to Las Vegas, Nevada, Oghanian debuted on August 18, 2002, scoring a second-round TKO stoppage over Oscar Fuentes at Pechanga Resort & Casino, in Temecula, California.

 Oghanian then defeated John Clark, Keith Govan, Vernon Woodward, Salvador Farnetti, Ivan Aparecido Rosa, and Ali Saidi, scoring seven consecutive wins in a 21 months stretch to open his career. The last two wins were in Europe, where Oghanian lost a six round majority decision to 9-0 Valery Chechenev in September 2005. Oghanian never fought again, finishing his pro heavyweight career at 7-1.
