Dina Thorslund, The Deadly Dane of Denmark
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Dina Thorslund is 17-0 with seven knockouts, Struer, Denmark, is the beautiful and deadly Dane, Denmark’s first female world boxing champion. Dina has won seven consecutive Female World Boxing Organisation World Bantamweight title bouts. Dina packs vicious overhand head and body shots. However, it was ultimately a vicious power left hook to the solar plexus which knocked out former Female World Boxing Council Super Flyweight champion Zulina Munoz, 53-4-2 with 30 knockouts, Mexico City, Mexico.
Thorslund previously held the Female World Super Bantamweight title. Whether big unification bouts are on the horizon or not remains to be seen. Amanda Serrano, the current WBC and WBO Female World Featherweight champion, is probably looking to go up in weight for a big money mega-fight with Katie Taylor in 2022, if it occurs.
Former WBA and WBC World Super Middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler is the best known world champion out of Denmark. Other Danish champions include former WBO and IBO World Super Featherweight champion Jimmi Bredahl, former IBO World Super Middleweight champion Mads Larsen, former WBO World Welterweight champion Gert Bo Jacobsen (who finally beat Manning Galloway on the third try to win the title), and former IBO World Heavyweight champion Brien Nielsen are the other former Danish world boxing champions. Denmark’s former European Middleweight champion Tom Bogs, defeated Mike Quarry, Vicente Rondon and Jose Chirino (who beat Nino Benvenuti). Bogs cut Carlos Monzon on the left eyebrow in the fourth round but was dropped three times and was stopped by Monzon in the fifth round in Copenhagen in August 1972 in his only world title opportunity for the WBA and WBC World Middleweight titles held by Monzon.
