Sergio Martinez Win His Third Comeback Fight Over the Veteran Brian Rose in Madrid Spain
Madrid, Spain (September 26th, 2021)– Southpaw former World Middleweight champion Sergio Gabriel “Maravilla” Martinez, age 46, 54-3-2 with 30 knockouts, Madrid, Spain by way of Buenos Aires, Argentina, won a unanimous ten round decision over Brian Rose, 32-7-1 with eight knockouts, Blackpool, Lancashire, United Kingdom, in the preliminary bout to the main event at Valdemoro, Comunidad de Madrid Spain, on Saturday evening, September 25, 2021.
Martinez, who retired in 2018 after a titular loss to Miguel Cotto with knee problems, appeared to recover sufficiently after knee surgery to win this, his third consecutive comeback win, but still had maneuverability problems in the sixth and seventh rounds. If Martinez has the intention of stepping up to face the top contenders and world champions such as Gennadiy Golovkin and Demetrius Andrade in the 160 pounds division again, he will have to be able to move at 100 percent, which was not completely evident here despite the comeback win.
Using his trademark right jab, Martinez opened a cut over the left eye of Rose early, and worked the cut for the rest of the bout, outworking his bigger and taller opponent as a result. Martinez was wobbled by a Rose right hand in the second round, and clinched for dear life, with both men eventually tumbling to the canvas. Martinez came forward and worked the cut, emphasizing work rate in the second part of the bout, turning the early close rounds into easy rounds in the second half of the bout as the cut sustained by Rose continued to bleed profusely during rounds.
Result: Sergio Gabriel Martinez Win 10 Brian Rose, Middleweights
Scoring: 97-94, 96-94, 96-94 for Martinez
The bout was promoted by Maravillabox, the promotional company of Sergio Martinez
