Contact Sports

Three Health Benefits Of Contact Sports

Over the course of the past year, we have all missed a lot of the things we took for granted. We’ve missed the drinks with friends, we’ve missed the Sunday dinners with family, and we’ve missed getting together to play team sports on the weekend. Of course, it’s been vital that we all stay inside and minimize contact with other people as much as possible, but as we head into a new year, it’s time for all of us to think about the different ways that we can exercise and improve our physical fitness levels in the months to come.

Now, there is a lot to be said for the solo exercise routines, from working out in the park to those long uphill bike rides through big open spaces, but nothing beats the work-out, the adrenaline and the rush of contact sports. Here are just a few of the reasons why they need to be top of your list when the restrictions are lifted.

Contact Sports Keeps You Agile

There’s no doubt about it, there’s nothing that keeps your body and mind as honed as playing high-intensity contact sports. Whether it’s the responsibility of knowing your role in a rugby team as you wait for the ball to be thrown to you before charging ahead to find the gap in the line, knowing that you need to be able to turn on a dime when you see that colossus from the other team bearing down on you with the look on his face that says he’s going to flatten you to the mud, or anticipating the next punch in a boxing match against an opponent that everyone says is bigger and faster than you.

You Simply Have To Be Fit To Play Contact Sports

Whether it’s football, soccer, hockey or MMA, there’s no hiding from the fact that if you’re playing a sport that requires physical contact, you are going to need to be in shape. Knowing that you’re going to be going up against someone else is a fantastic driver to keeping yourself in excellent physical condition, and for keeping a careful eye on what you’re putting into your body. Contact Sports Build Confidence

Anyone who plays a contact sport will tell you that there is nothing like the confidence boost that comes from the hours of training that you put in, working with your trainer and your gym-mates to find those weak spots and eliminate them, to focus on those goals and reach them, to bring you to the point when you’re ready to go toe-to-toe with your opponent. We can talk about the health pros all day but the mental health benefits of sports like boxing, as you find your focus and self-confidence, are very real.
