New York, NY (November 3, 2019)– Here we go again! Just when you think fight fans have seen it all after Floyd Mayweather Jr. versus Conor McGregor, UFC 244 new BMF World Welterweight champion Jorge Masvidal has called out the new World Boxing Organization World Light Heavyweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez for a fight in 2020 for all the pay-per-view marbles.
With President Donald Trump watching cage side in the second row, Masvidal won his title in the same night as Canelo (but not in the same place) on November 2, 2019, Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. The main event bout of UFC 244 was stopped when a ringside doctor refused to let Nate Diaz come out for the fourth round. Diaz sustained a deep gash over his right eye pouring out blood and parting skin, and was not allowed out to answer the bell for the next round.
Masvidal, 35-13, Miami, Florida, had his championship belt put around his waist by fellow Miamian Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. From a hard luck career, Masvidal has three big MMA wins in 2019, and his career has hit the big time.
While Masvidal agreed to an immediate rematch request from Diaz, and would also love to fight Conor McGregor, stating “You see he (Conor) punches old people in the face because it’s the only fight he can win.”
Masvidal stated after winning the title an even bigger deal for him would be a match against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez for the real money. “I hear we killed Canelo on the (paid) pay-per-views (at the same time). I can box (Canelo). I hit hard,” noted Masvidal, who thus becomes the second UFC superstar to challenge a professional boxing champion.
