Minneapolis, Minnesota (July 15th, 2019)– For eight rounds on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at the Minneapolis Armory, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, heavyweights Gerald Washington and Robert Helenius stood in front of each other jabbing in slow motion. Helenius led in the punch count and on the scorecards, but none of the punches thrown by both combatants seemed of consequence.
Late in the eighth round, Washington, now 20-3-1 with 13 knockouts, Vallejo, California, staggered Helenius, 28-3 with 17 knockouts, Helenhamn, Denmark, backward with a power right to the head. Helenius held on. Washington’s next punch, a straight right to the face fo Helenius, send Helenius backwards, down and out. Washington, 3-3-2 in his previous eight bouts, made a statement. Work hard in the boxing game, and anything is possible.
