Zab Judah Faces Hebrew Hammer Cletus Seldin in Hall of Fame Weekend Battle June 7

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Verona, NY (May 31, 2019)– Former six-time world champion Zab ‘Super’ Judah will attempt one final comeback for the NABA Super Lightweight title in the scheduled ten round main event of a seven bout card promoted by Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing at Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York, against ‘The Hebrew Hammer’, Cletus Seldin.

The southpaw ex-champion Judah, 44-9 with 30 knockouts, Las Vegas, Nevada, age 41, is in a do or die make or break ‘last hurrah’ situation against Seldin, 23-1 with 19 knockouts, age 32, Brooklyn, New York. The Judah-Seldin fight card headlines a card by promoter Joe DeGuardia paralleling the thirtieth annual International Boxing Hall of Fame induction weekend in nearby Canastota, New York.

Judah himself could be an outside candidate for induction into the International and World pro boxing halls of fame, having always been a good controversial talker to sell tickets, sort of the Adrien Broner before there was Broner. Judah was a good boxing noisemaker who generated publicity, which was good for boxing, though he did not always win the big fight.

Judah is a regular marvel of the ring, having fought a who’s who of everyone in the 140-pound division, and most remarkably, having stayed in superb condition over the years to remain in the 140-pound division. Judah notes “In 1993 I won my first New York Golden Gloves (amateur championship) at 139 pounds. Now, it’s 2019, and I’m still fighting at 140 pounds. If that ain’t discipline, I don’t know what is!”

Judah is favored to win by 10 round unanimous decision, in particular, because Seldin lost a ten rounder in December 2017 in Canada to Yves Ulysse Jr. In this bout, which Seldin lost by three identical scores of 99-88, Seldin got knocked down in rounds one, two and three, and got exposed as having a weak chin. Judah, on the other hand, has been in the ring with everyone from Floyd Mayweather Jr. to Danny Garcia. Experience and discipline go hand in hand. If Judah wants a shot at the current 140-pound world champions, Regis Prograis, Maurice Hooker, Josh Taylor, Jose Carlos Ramirez he undoubtedly could get a chance at one of them with this win. Whether Judah can beat them at this point in the game, it would be a rough go, as he has been relatively rung inactive in recent years, though Judah has been active in the gym.

On the undercard, 22-0 French super welterweight champion David Papot is favored to win by ten round unanimous decision over 27-3-1 James ‘Buddy’ McGirt Jr. of Vero Beach. Florida in a middleweight crossroads bout. 14-0-1 former Italian super featherweight champion Mario Alfano will face 8-1-1 Lavisas Williams of Rochester, New York in a ten rounder which could go either way. Boxing fans will also have an opportunity to mingle with some of the biggest names in boxing at the boxing card, including boxing VIPs and Hall of Famers. Turning Stone will offer a unique boxing fan experience for guests who purchase tickets for the June 7, 2019, Judah vs. Seldin fight. For an additional 50 dollars above plus the purchase of an admission ticket, guests will receive access to the Boxing Hall of Fame lounge, where boxing VIPs will be socializing throughout the night of the Judah-Seldin boxing card.
