Luis Collazo, Real Combat Media Comeback Fighter of March 2019

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Former World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association World Welterweight champion Luis Collazo of Queens, New York, is the Real Combat Media Comeback Fighter of the Month for March 2019. Collazo, age 37, 39-7 with 20 knockouts, has three consecutive comeback wins in 2017, 2018, and again on March 17, 2019, when he recorded a hard fought 10 round split decision win over 30-4-2 Samuel Vargas. One judge had it for Collazo 98-92. It has been a hard road back on the comeback trail for Collazo, whose last attempt to regain his W.B.C. World Welterweight title against Keith Thurman ended by stoppage after seven rounds in July 2015 at the USF Sundome in Tampa, Florida. Though more than half of his wins come by knockout, Collazo is also a superior technical fighter, having gone ten or twelve rounds 10 times during his career. Collazo has fought in eight welterweight world title bouts during his career.
