More on Miami: Conor McGregor Sued for Assault, Battery, and Emotional Distress
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Miami, FL (March 16th, 2018)– UFC MMA star Conor McGregor, already arrested and charged with robbery and criminal mischief for stomping and then stealing a fan’s cellphone while the fan was trying to take a picture of him outside the Fountainbleau Hotel in Mami, Florida, is now being sued by the owner of the phone after being released on $12,500 bond on March 11, 2019. It has been learned 22-year-old Ahmed Abdirzak filed a lawsuit on March 14, 2019, in Miami-Dade court for 15 thousand dollars, accusing McGregor of assault, battery and emotional distress.
The civil charges, on top of the criminal charges, will keep McGregor tied up in the South Florida courts for a considerable time now, after only just completing the requirements of a previous plea bargain sentence of community service for a previous criminal mischief incident in Brooklyn.
McGregor’s defense lawyer has called the civil suit a quick effort seeking a payday. Abdirzak claims in the lawsuit McGregor snapped and grabbed his arm so tightly he could not escape the scene. The new claim and issue of possible medical injuries, pain and suffering adds a new bizarre twist to McGregor’s presence in the sunny state for his mother’s birthday party at the Versace mansion. How many months or years McGregor’s career get derailed due to his new court battles, and how much it ultimately costs him, remains to be seen, and will evidently continue to be played out in the public eye.
