Final Fight Championship – The Fight Dome at Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino By: Lita B. Kaufman – Real Combat Media Las Vegas Boxing Correspondent- Ringside *Photo Credit: Lita B. Kaufman, Real Combat Media Las Vegas, Nevada (October 12, 2018)–What a classy extravaganza as Las Vegas became host to the first Combat Sports Residency named Final Fight Championship (FFC) … Fight Dome
Tucked in the back of The Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino, near the KISS Shop is a brand spanking new, intimate arena called The Fight Dome. This venue will be host to weekly Combat Sports cards televised by CBS SN (CBS Sports Network).
Interestingly enough, the bouts will feature not only Boxing but MMA and Kickboxing as well. I had better change my title to Real Combat Media Las Vegas Combat Correspondent – Ringside.
I had the good fortune to meet Orsat Zovko, President and Founder of Final Fight Championship and his staff who were not only gracious and inviting but eager and excited to present this production. The Rio Security gets kudos for their friendliness and efficiency. This was a classy event with the Ring Card girl who was not scantily clad but received cheers from the crowd non the less and Jacob “Stitch” Duran who is a world-renowned cutman for boxing and mixed martial arts fights. He was charming and a pleasure to work with.
This event featured dignitaries such as Shelley Williams who was the stunning Lady in Red. Shelley was inducted into the National Boxing Hall of Fame in 2016. Thell Torrance, legendary boxing trainer and 2016 Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame Inductee was present as was James “Quick” Tillis who was inducted into the Rochester and National Boxing Halls of Fame escorted by his lovely wife Vanessa when they attended the weigh-ins the prior evening.
The evenings action featured one MMA, one Boxing and two Kickboxing cards.
Here are the results:
FFC WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP (MMA)
This MMA Welterweight Bout scheduled for 5X5 minute rounds featured Ben Egli of Portland, OR vs. Roberto Neves of Sao Paolo, Brazil. The action ended at 3:25 in the 1st round with the ref calling submission due to a RNC (Rear Naked Choke) of Neves. Ben Egli put on a great battle proving why he was the champion. He is now (11-2-0).
WBU CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP (BOXING)
The boxing portion of the evening showcased Shawn Miller of Troy, NY (19-4-1 7 KO’s) vs. Dennis Morris of Milwaukee, WI (14-3-1 12 KO’s). Although Miller pulled off a unanimous decision winning the WBU Belt, the scores varied 100-90, 97-93, 97-93. Not enough credit was given to Morris who successfully deflected and countered the advances of Miller and kept him busy the entire 10 rounds. Morris is a regular in Las Vegas and was the crowd favorite as evidenced by the loud displeasure (boo’s) coming from the crowd upon hearing the decision. We look forward to seeing Dennis fight again soon.
Beginning the action were 2 kickboxing bouts:
FFC HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP (KICKBOXING)
Mladen Brestovac (55-14-1) of Zagreb, Croatia vs. Jhonata Diniz (16-6-0) out of Curitiba, Brazil. Brestovac also known as “The Scorpion Sting” retained his title by winning by KO with a brutal Head Kick of Diniz at 2:00 in the 3rd round rendering Diniz stung and out of action.
FFC WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP (KICKBOXING)
Shkodran Veseli (83-18-1) of Zurich, Switzerland vs. Francois Ambang (18-8-1) of Mechanicsville, VA put on a great fight with Veseli winning the FFC Welterweight Kickboxing Title in the 4th Round with a KO. He earned the victory by utilizing mainly punches causing Ambang to kneel at 1:23 in the 4th round thus the KO call.
It was extremely exciting covering this event featuring multiple disciplines of Combat Sports and I am looking forward to next week with a refreshing variety of action …
