Tony Bellew versus Oleksandr Usyk Cruiserweight Explosion Match in Manchester!
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Manchester, UK (September 27th, 2018)– Manchester Arena in Manchester, United Kingdom, will host what will be perhaps the greatest cruiserweight match of all time in the history of the 200-pound division on November 10, 2018, When Oleksandr Usyk defends his WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO World Cruiserweight titles against top regarded Tony Bellew in an explosion match!
Bellew, 30-2-1 with 20 knockouts, Liverpool, United Kingdom, is coming off two impressive wins over former WBA World Heavyweight champion David Haye at heavyweight. Bellew has lost and won in two hard-fought 12 rounders with Nathan Cleverly, draw and won with Isaac Chilemba, and gotten stopped at light heavyweight against Adonis Stevenson, who still holds the 175-pound title.
Neither Bellew or Usyk has been beaten at cruiserweight. Bellew was dropped in the first round by Illunga Makabu in Liverpool, who he came back to stop. Some critics argue David Haye was faded, and Stevenson and Makabu prove Bellew can be outboxed and overpowered, under the right circumstances.
Usyk, the undisputed champion, 15-0 with 11 knockouts, Kiev, Ukraine, has outboxed the best, Hunter, Huck, Mchunu, Glowacki, Muller, and Breidis, leaving perhaps Bellew as the biggest remaining significant challenge available. Bellew will be stronger going back down to cruiserweight, and will go down from 210 pounds to 200 pounds, and probably enter the ring at 210 pounds after the weigh-in.
The question is can Usyk survive Bellew’s power? This is a sort of a repeat of Alexander Povetkin versus Marco Huck. Bellew simply is stronger, but Usyk has a stubborn chin. The bout will go 12 rounds, and the win will go to the better game plan, not the better fighter. The brutality of these two warriors will leave only one standing within eleven rounds. It figures to Bellew, but who knows which fighter has the bigger heart? Nonetheless, only one fighter will be left standing. Usyk is over his head here. Bellew has matured as a fighter. Overall, this is a spectacular promotion for Matchroom Boxing promoted by Eddie Hearn.
