London. UK (July 23, 2018)– Former Zimbabwe and Commonwealth British Empire Lightweight champion Langston ‘Schoolboy’ Tinago, who upset former World Lightweight champion Ken Buchanan in 1981, has died in Zimbabwe at the age of 68.

Tinago, who never got the opportunity to fight for a world title, fought 110 pro bouts between 1967 and 1987, and compiled an impressive record of 86 wins, 20 losses and three draws, with one no-decision. Tinago also held the Commonwealth British Empire Super Featherweight title and the Zimbabwe Welterweight title during his career.

In April 1981, Tinago, in the biggest win of his career, won an upset 10 round decision over former World Lightweight champion Ken Buchanan at the National Sports Centre in Harare. In his final bout in August 1987, Tinago won a 12 round decision over Emmanuel Nyika to regain the Zimbabwe Lightweight title he had last held in 1983. A patient and fine technical fighter, none of Tinago’s bouts ended in the first round. Besides four wins between rounds two and four, all of Tinago’s other 106 bouts went five rounds or more. Tinago was stopped only for time in his 110 bout career.
