WBO Shocking Knockout of Year! Lagumbay Kayos Obara in Rare Double Knockdown

By Robert Brizel Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Valencia City, Philippines (May 2, 2018)– Filipino welterweight southpaw Alvin ‘Time Bomb’ Lagumbay scored the shocking knockout of the year of 2018 so far in the most unlikely of enemy territory, Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan, on April 12, 2018. Lagumbay, now 10-2 with nine knockouts, Valencia City, Philippines, was the Rocky Balboa underdog against 10-2-1 Keita Obara of Tokyo, in a battle for Obara’s World Boxing Organization Asia Pacific Welterweight title.

Obara knocked down Lagumbay onto the seat of his pants in round one, a flash knockdown giving Obara a clear 10-8 round in round one due to the knockdown, though Lagumbay was not hurt.

In round two, the orthodox stance Obara and the southpaw Lagumbay began swinging away George Foreman versus Ron Lyle style with no defense, and at 2:26 of the second round, the impossible resulted. Obara landed a left hook, while Lamgubay landed a loaded overhand power left. Both fighters went down, Lagumbay for a two count still on his feet barely and then arising, and Obara on his back where he got counted out at 2:36. The rare double knockdown took place, while a spectacular upset result. By the way, a knockout is pretty much the only way to win in Japan, and Lagumbay found a magical way to take the scorecards out of the picture. Who could have predicted this? Wow!

Result: Alvin Lagubmay KO 2 Keita Obara, Welterweights (2:36)
Lamgumbay Wins WBO Asia Pacific Welterweight Title
Lamgumbay down in first round for four count.

Both fighters down in second in double knockdown. Lagumbay arises, Obara does not.

Referee: Yuji Fukuchi. WBO Supervisor; Leon Panoncillo
