Prichard Colon’s Father Protests Terrel Williams Michigan Comeback at Weigh-In
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Flint, Michigan (November 20th, 2017)– In a unique pro boxing first, Richard Colon, the father of brain-damaged boxer Prichard Colon, showed up in Flint, Michigan, at the weigh-in for the comeback of the boxer who injured his son, traveling 1200 miles and getting ejected by boxing event security, shouting “Yo, yo, yo, look over here, this is the man who put my son in a coma!” Richard Colon felt Williams should not have the opportunity to fight again after what he did to his son.
Williams, a junior middleweight, knocked out Rosemberg Gomez on Friday, November 17, 2017, at Dort Federal Events Center in Flint, Michigan, his first bout since he won by disqualification over Prichard Colon in 2015, 25 months earlier, in a bout which featured numerous rabbit punches to the back of the head thrown by Williams.
Colon, 25, went into a coma after brain surgery two years ago, and continued on in what doctors described to the family as a vegetative state. In recent months, Colon has finally progressed to being able to nod in the affirmative or negative when asked certain questions by Richard and his ex-wife, Nieves. Colon remains under 24 hour care at home by his mother. The Colon family has filed a 50 million dollar lawsuit against the ringside doctors and the promoters of the 2015 Terrel Williams versus Prichard Colon bout.
