Oscar De La Hoya Callout of Conor McGregor: Boxing’s Latest Lunacy

Editorial By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Okay. Floyd Mayweather Jr. has made it to (50-0) with his tenth round stoppage of the debuting Conor McGregor, MMA champion and brave opponent in a well-promoted mega-spectacle.

Boxing champion turned boxing promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, who has not fought professionally since 2008, thinks he will need only two rounds to dispatch McGregor, and is now calling him out.

Does Oscar De La Hoya really believe after ten years of inactivity he can beat McGregor at age 44? Rather, does De La Hoya think Golden Boy Promotions can make money off a n Oscar De La Hoya versus Conor McGregor spectacle in the same way Floyd did?

Money talks and the B.S. walks. De La Hoya smells the green, and McGregor, who makes enough controversy to keep his face in the sporting newspapers, can make some more dough too. If De La Hoya wants to make a fool of himself, why not? Go ahead. However, McGregor is younger, active, experienced and more seasoned than ring rusty De La Hoya. McGregor can decision De La Hoya, in the least, over 12 rounds. Will the public bite? De La Hoya’s name as far as inside the ring goes, has faded from marquee value. The public likes something crazy, and if Floyd versus McGregor wasn’t enough, De La Hoya versus McGregor will provide some more noise. It’s probably worth something, but it won’t look very good if De La Hoya gets taken out by McGregor, if Oscar’s challenge is accepted.
