JOSE ALDO REPLACES FRANKIE EDGAR TO GET THE REMATCH WITH MAX HOLLOWAY

Las Vegas, NV (November 14th, 2017)– With Frankie Edgar forced to withdraw from his UFC 218 title fight against Max Holloway due to injury, former featherweight king Jose Aldo will now attempt to regain his belt when he faces the Hawaiian star in the main event rematch of their June bout on Dec. 2 in Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena.

In the co-main event, Alistair Overeem and Francis Ngannou meet in what promises to be an explosive clash of heavyweight contenders. Tickets are on sale now.

Fresh from a Fight of the Night win over Aldo that earned him the undisputed UFC featherweight championship at UFC 212, Hawaii’s Holloway is currently on an 11-fight winning streak. Included in his run of excellence are wins over Anthony Pettis, Ricardo Lamas, Jeremy Stephens and Cub Swanson, but it was his victory over Aldo that put him alone atop the 145-pound weight class.

Rio de Janeiro’s Aldo is far from finished, though, and when the UFC’s first featherweight champion heard of Edgar’s injury, he jumped at this shot at redemption. A two-time champion whose initial reign lasted for over five years, the 31-year-old superstar and longtime WEC titleholder was awarded his UFC championship before UFC 123 in Auburn Hills on November 20, and this December, he returns to Michigan intent on leaving with a belt once more.
