It was the first draw in the 31-year-old Sosa’s seven year ring professional career. One judge had it 59-55 for Sosa, and trainer Mike Melendez felt his fighter got robbed, adding “Of course we got robbed. We knew coming in we would need a knock out to win.”

Sosa, 15-10-1, New Jersey, is a gatekeeper in the 147 pound and 154 pound weight classes, and he has scored knockouts in all 15 of his wins, meaning he must knock out his opponent to win when visiting to fight in hosting promoter’s territories. The following interview with Sosa is translated from the Spanish.

Robert B: “Did you beat Tommy Rainone?”

George Sosa: “I won the fight easy. All I can say for him is he didn’t fall (down). I will fight a rematch with Tommy Rainone, no problem. Eight rounds, 10 rounds, no problem.”

Robert B: “Did he fight back at all?”

George Sosa: “To me, I won the bout. He (Tommy Rainone) can prepare all he wants. He never beat me.”

Robert B: “Did Tommy Rainone punch hard?”

George Sosa: “No. He fought dirty and ugly. He was dirty. He was always hitting me behind the head, and on his own he was also holding me a lot.”

Robert B: “Did Tommy Rainone come to fight?”

George Sosa: “He wanted to fight. No problem. I fought him. I will fight him again. Six rounds, eight rounds or 10 rounds, it’s no problem. I’ll be there.”

Reader’s Note: Tommy Rainone, 26-8-1, six knockouts, Farmingdale, New York, will turn 38 years old on January 8, 2018.

Robert B: “What were the weights for your bout with Tommy Rainone?”

George Sosa: “Our contract was to fight at 154 pounds. Both Rainone and myself weighed in at 153 pounds, which was under the limit, so we made the contractual weight.”

Robert B: “Two judges scored your six round bout with Tommy Rainone an empate (a majority draw) at 57-57 and 57-57. What did you think of their scoring?”

George Sosa: Nobody is in agreement. I had the bout (won). One judge had it 59-55 for me.”

Robert B: “Was 59-55 the correct scoring of the bout?”

George Sosa: “Yes it was.”

Robert B: “How is your boxing style different from Tommy Rainone?”

George Sosa: “I boxed. He ran!”

Robert B: “Tell me about the rematch possibility currently on the table.”

George Sosa: “Tommy Rainone wants a rematch with me. I also want to get 2018 fights with former world welterweight champion Kermit Cintron and welterweight contender Emmanuel Taylor for six rounds, eight rounds, or 10 rounds. I fight at 147 to 154 pounds.”
