Deontay Wilder Defends Heavyweight Crown in Brooklyn

By Eliezer Garcia, Real Combat Media NY/NJ Correspondent

New York, NY (November 3rd, 2017)– Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder (38-0,37 KOs) will be defending his Heavyweight title for the sixth time at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. The opponent is former Title holder Bermane Stiverne ( 25-2-1, 21 KOs). Wilder first beat Stiverne in January 2015, by a 12 round unanimous decision, gaining him The WBC heavyweight title. Since then Wilder has successfully defended the crown six times. The Bronx Bomber has brought the spotlight back to the heavyweight division with his impressive streak of knockouts.

However, this was not the fight fans were expecting. The original mandatory opponent was another undefeated fighter, Luis Ortiz (27-0,23 KOs) The Cuban native was failed a pre-fight drug test and failed to submit a sample B to be examined to the WBC’s testing program. The sanctioning body has made it official, as the World Championships Committee announced that Ortiz will have a one-year suspension, and immediate removal from the rankings, due to his failed drug test. Fight fans were left extremely disappointed, as many felt Ortiz would have been Wilder’s biggest challenge today.

Bermane Stiverne, became the mandatory challenger after pulling Ortiz from Saturday’s main event. The question on Saturday isn’t who will win, but how. Wilder is coming in as a high favorite into this bout, considering the fact Stiverne didn’t seem to have any answers in their first bout. Fight Fans are hoping for an impressive win over Stiverne because they already have their eyes for 2018. Anthony Joshua (20-0-20 KOs) has become the superstar in the heavyweight division. Joshua managed to pull a TKO win over long time reigning champion Wladmimir Klitschko (65-5-53 KOs). Since then, Joshua’s popularity seems to have sky rocket overnight. Last Saturday he filled up 70,000 seats at Wembley stadium. The stars have aligned and are guiding us to a showdown between Wilder and Joshua, but before we can look into the future, we must wait for what bombs will be thrown Saturday.
