By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Montreal, Canada (September 30th, 2017)– They call him Kaboom! Heavyweight Oscar Rivas, like Luis Ortiz, is a heavyweight wild card. Rivas, a Columbian now fighting out of Montreal, Canada, 2008 Olympian defeated the current number one contender Kubrat Pulev at the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China as an amateur. Rivas has reached 20-0 with 16 knockouts, an 80 percent knockout ratio. Vitali Klitschko had a 92% knockout ratio, Rocky Marciano an 88% knockout ratio, Big George Foreman had an 83% knockout ratio. So 80% or higher in the heavyweight division for legitimate contenders and champions is a good percentage by the numbers.
This past week, Rivas won the vacant NABF Heavyweight title with a first round 68 second knockout of 31-4 Carl Davis Drummond at the Montreal Casino in Montreal. The big questions who Rivas will defend his NABF belt against. Rivas is due to move up on major undercards soon, if he is promoted corrected. Rivas is definitely a face to watch in 2018. The major focus here will be Rivas and his high knockout percentage, and how he fairs after he steps up in class to world class 12 round contender opponents. Rivas could be a candidate for Joseph Parker, Deontay Wilder or Anthony Joshua, depending on how he is moved and the quality of wins in the year ahead. Rivas is definitely a face to watch.
