Kovalev’s Trainer Was Going To Switch To Team Ward?

This week reported that Sergey Kovalev’s trainer John David Jackson was considering switching over and training Andre Ward. Ward’s team reached out to Jackson and offered him a position in Ward’s camp. In an interview with Radio Rahim, Jackson implied that he was trying to keep these negotiations secret and was disappointed that Ward’s team came out and told the media. When asked if Jackson considered the offer he said “If Ward had met my offer, who knows”. Later on Kovalev was asked what he thought about this and he said that at the end of the day it doesn’t matter what went on because he’s still his trainer now and they’re on a mission to beat Ward. One might think Kovalev and his trainer might have been going through a rough time because why would would Jackson even consider the fight in the first place?

Lomachenko vs Salido Rematch in Talks

Vasyl Lomachenko first and only loss was to the hands of Orlando Salido back in March of 2014. Ever since Lomachenko has climbed the P4P rankings in boxing as one of the best. Now the two sides are looking to put on a rematch. Recently a source close to Salido talked with ESPN about the rematch between Salido and Lomachenko.

“What was missing was Orlando winning [on Saturday night], and now we have to go to the table and see how much interest there is in the fight, from ‘Siri’ the interest is evident. He knows that there is money [in that fight] and he feels that he can give another surprise to Lomachenko and his team, so [Salido] would not have any reason to decline the fight if they offer him the amount he expects. It is being discussed for the early part of August,” said the source to ESPN Deportes.

If the fight happens in August who do you have you money on?

Cotto Returns

For a while it looked like Miguel Cotto was never going to get back into the ring but finally he is scheduled to fight on August 26th against Yoshihiro Kamegai. Not only that but Cotto has also left Roc Nation Promotions and has signed a multi fight deal with Golden Boy Promotions. The fight will be for the vacant WBO World super welterweight title meaning if Cotto wins it will be his sixth world title. Even if Cotto gets passed Kamegai sooner or later he will probably have to fight against the best at 154 lbs which consist of Jarrett Hurd, Erislandy Lara, Demetrius Andrade, and Jermell Charlo. Who do you think will win on August 26th?

Broner vs Garcia

Adrien Broner and Mikey Garcia will officially be fighting on August 29th with a weight limit of 140 lbs .The fight will be shown on Showtime likely take place at the Barclays Center in New York but the venue is not officially set yet. Many fans are already picking Garcia to win due to the way that it looks like Broner doesn’t take his career seriously. This is a fight Broner can’t afford to lose. If Broner were to win this fight it would definitely put him back on the map. A lose now would make a lot of fans question if Broner can ever beat and A-Level fighter ever again.

Today premiered the HBO special of Ward vs Kovalev 24/7 which documents the two fighters preparing for June 17th. Pulev Mandatory to Joshua

Kubrat Pulev is currently the mandatory challenger to the IBF Heavyweight Champion which is Anthony Joshua. I don’t doubt that Joshua would be more than willing to fight Pulev but Joshua has a rematch clause which Wladimir Klitschko is likely to act upon. Anthony Joshua’s promoter has asked the IBF for an exception for the fight. Joshua’s team is currently waiting for the decision. Pulev’s promoter Kalle Sauerland is also hoping that IBF decides in favor of them.

“I look after my guys, that’s what I’m there to do. At the end of the day I’ve got to make sure Kubrat Pulev’s looked after in terms of getting his fight. One thing I’m happy about, if they go again, if they allow the rematch to be the next fight, I’m very confident that he gets the winner, who I fully expect to be Anthony Joshua and we’ll have Joshua-Pulev. That’s the fight that Kubrat really wants. He was offered it. He was offered it as a voluntary. He turned it down. He knows that he gets better terms as a mandatory,” Sauerland told Boxing News.

“In the name of boxing I would understand a decision against us, as Kubrat Pulev’s promoter of course we don’t. At the end we have to accept what the IBF decides. They either allow the fight or not allow the fight. They either allow Pulev or [Joshua] is allowed to fight Klitschko. They won’t allow him to fight someone else. They won’t allow a [Deontay] Wilder fight or a Joseph Parker fight. It’s all about the rematch. That’s been very clear.”
