World Boxing Federation (WBF) Titles Won In France & Philippines!

Strasbourg, France (May 15th, 2017)– The World Boxing Federation (WBF) crowned three new champions on Friday night, May 12, as women’s world title fights were main events on shows in two different cities in France, and one Intercontinental title fight headlined a card in the Philippines.

At the Gymnase Des Materies in Strasbourg, France, former WBF World Featherweight Champion Stephanie Ducastel moved up in weight to win her second world title, defeating Maria Soledad Capriolo from Argentina to lift the vacant WBF World Super Featherweight crown.

Ducastel had a slight upper hand from the start, and kept her momentum throughout despite Capriolo giving it a game effort all the way. Scores from judges Jean-Marcel Nartz, Smail Alitouche and Alexander Plumanns were 97-93 across the board.

With the victory, Ducastel (37), also a former European Featherweight Champion, improved her professional record to 8-3-1 (2), while “La Bonita” Capriolo (35) drops to a deceiving 7-6-4 (4). The fight was promoted by Panza Gym headed by Andre Panza.

950 kilometres away at the Espace Cordouan in Royan, undefeated European Super Featherweight Champion Angelique Duchemin (25) moved down in weight to beat former French national champion, and compatriot, Ericka Rousseau (30) for the vacant WBF World Featherweight title.

Judge Pierre Derval scored the entertaining fight 96-94, while judges Mohamed Hireche and Bertrand Chagnoux both had it wider at 98-92.

The new world champion, who entered the fight as a slight favourite, is now 14-0 (3) since turning pro in 2012, and Rousseau, who also entered the paid ranks in 2012, loses for the second time and falls to 11-2 (0). Promoter was Franck Weis and Rocboxe.

As part of the 3rd Games & Amusement Board (GAB) Philippines Boxing Convention held at the Waterfront Insular Hotel in Davao City, former WBF International Flyweight ruler Jake Bornea repeated a previous victory over fellow countryman Renerio Arizala to win the vacant WBF Intercontinental Super Flyweight title.

Promoted by Sanman Promotions, 21-year-old Bornea floored and stopped Arizala (23) round eight, improving on his first victory from April 2016 where he somewhat struggled to prevail by unanimous. Bornea is now 12-2 (6), while Arizela goes to 13-7-1 (5).
