Kovalev vs Ward 2 New Contract

Recently the rematch between Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev was made official for June 17 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. The last fight ended up in a big controversy after Ward won the fight by unanimous decision. The contract that the two signed in the first fight contained a rematch clause which would force Ward to fight Kovalev if he lost, and he did lose. Ward signed his contract for the rematch but this time the contract has no rematch clause. This means this might be Kovalev’s last chance to prove himself in the ring against Ward. Who do you think will win the rematch?

Chavez Argues With Trainer

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is set to face Saul Canelo Álvarez on May 6th in Las Vegas and in order to get ready, Chavez has hired Nacho Beristain. Chavez Jr has been known to be one of the laziest boxers in the sport who does whatever he wants but it looks like Nacho isn’t having it. Chavez Jr wanted to finish his training camp in Mexico this week to go start training in Las Vegas. Nacho said that he still had two more weeks of hard work left until they could go to Las Vegas.

“That annoyed me a lot. I told him he was wrong, we’ve been in here for a month and a half and on a whim he wants to ruin the job. I’m not playing around, I’m a professional. I told him, ‘I’m not going to Las Vegas like this.’ He convinced himself that I’m not playing around and then he told me he’s fine, whatever I say,” Nacho told ESPN Deportes.

“I just told him I did not agree with that decision, it’s stupid to spoil everything we’ve worked for. We still have two weeks of hard work.

“I told him that I want him to have at least six months of working with me and I’m going to make him into a different fighter.”

A lot of people are choosing Canelo to win this fight, can Nacho push Chavez Jr to his full potential.

Roach on Horn

Many fans were upset to hear that a fight between Manny Pacquiao and Jeff Horn was official for July 2nd. There were so many other fights that would have pleased fans but Pacquiao decided to sign his name on a contract with Horn. But on the upside Freddie Roach, Pacquiao’s trainer, is saying that his fighter’s knockout dry spell will soon end.

“Manny hasn’t scored a knockout in a long time, and it’s time that changed. He is working his ass off for this fight and we will be keeping the world title. Manny doesn’t underestimate anyone. He knows upsets can happen in boxing and that Horn is a good puncher but we are prepared for anything. No fighter in the world has Manny’s work ethic. He runs for an hour in the morning and does 65 rounds of training in the gym every day,” Roach said.

“And he loves nothing more than entertaining big crowds. The bigger crowd the more he likes it. There might be 55,000 people in the (Suncorp) Stadium cheering for Horn but that will only encourage Manny to put on the best show he can. He will be the very best he can be for this fight because we know Jeff Horn will be at his best too.’’

“There are some big fights coming up for Manny in the near future,’’ Roach said, “and Jeff Horn is just the kind of opponent Manny needs to prepare for those. We’re going for the knockout. Horn is a strong guy, a counter puncher but we’re coming up with a game plan to make sure that Manny Pacquiao flies home still with that world title belt in his possession.’’

Orlando Salido Back In The Ring

One of the top fighters in the world right now has to be the highly skilled Vasyl Lomachenko and it seems that he’s unbeatable, but he isn’t. Lomachenko has only been beat once and that was to the hands of Orlando Salido. Since then Salido has been in number of competitive fights. It has been exactly one year since Salido has entered the ring and he’s ready to get back in. Salido is scheduled to fight on May 27th in Sonora, Mexico. The opponent is yet to be determined.

Sullivan Barrera Wins Fight

Sullivan Barrera is most known for getting beat by Andre Ward but now he is looking to try to make a mark of his own in the division. Barrera beat a fighter by the name of Paul Parker on Saturday night. The fight ended in the fifth round by TKO after Barrera had knocked down Parker two times in the fight. Barrera is now calling out Joe Smith Jr. who is one of the top fighters at 175 lbs.

“I have a great team and I know that they are looking for good things for me. I’m very happy with this fight against Paul Parker. I know that I have a good team and are looking for good fights for me but many thanks to Paul Parker for taking the fight – but what many fans write to me and tell me is that they want to see me fight Joe Smith Jr. What happened bro? Let’s give the fans the fight they want Joe Smith Jr.,” said Barrera.

Showtime vs HBO

Anthony Joshua will be fighting against Wladimir Klitschko on April 29 in front of 90,000 people at Wembley Stadium in London. These last few weeks there has been a battle between Showtime and HBO about who will be getting the rights to this fight. It looks like the two television networks have finally come to an agreement. Showtime will be showing the live fight at 4:15 pm E.T. and 1:15 pm P.T. then HBO will be airing it later on at 10:45 pm E.T. and 7:45 P.T.

Even though HBO is not getting to show the fight live they will be getting to shown the fight during prime time. Who do you think got the better half of this negotiation?

Mayweather vs McGregor UPDATE

For a couple of months now there have been several rumors that Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor is close to being a done deal. One of the biggest obstacles getting in the way of the fight was getting the UFC on board for the fight. A couple of weeks ago UFC President Dana White said he does think that the fight will be coming into fruition. Today a reporter asked White if there’s any news on the fight and White said that the fight wasn’t even close to being done.

“I think it’s progressing but nowhere near being done,” said White. “It’s not even close to being done. If we were close, I would tell you we were close. We’re not even close.”

Cotto Possible Next Fight

Miguel Cotto hasn’t been inside the ring since fighting Saul Canelo Álvarez in 2015. Cotto was suppose to fight against James Kirkland earlier this year but the fight got canceled. Then Cotto was in negotiations with Juan Manuel Marquez but the two never were able to agree upon a contract that would make the two happy. For a moment it looked like Cotto was going to retire but it looks like he is now in negotiations for a different fight. Roc Nation President Michael Yormark is saying that Cotto might be fighting against Yoshihiro Kamegai in June.

“Obviously, we were disappointed by that cancellation [in February]. It made a dent in our plans. But we are working tirelessly for Miguel to return to the ring as soon as possible. Our idea is to fight on June 24 and then a big one in the fall. We have two or three opponents we are looking at right now. We want to finish both scenarios within the next two or three weeks,” said Yormark.
