Why on earth would any amateur heavyweight beast great enough to beat up on and knock out world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua not want to go professional and remain an amateur? This is the ongoing strange case of Romania’s talented amateur heavyweight Mihai Nistor, who prefers to train for the 20210 Olympic Games to try to win the Olympic heavyweight gold medal instead of turning pro, and getting the immediate chance to beat Anthony Joshua again.

Duane Bobick defeated Larry Holmes easily in the amateurs. Several fighters defeated Rocky Marciano in the amateurs. Of course, the professional ring is a completely different story from the amateur ring. The two do not necessarily parallel. However, the Olympic Games have been a consistent determiner of future talent in the majority of cases. It certainly was true for many talented boxers, from Sugar Ray Leonard to Deontay Wilder.

However, any heavyweight who steps into the ring and confidently finishes off and knocks out Anthony Joshua deserves special attention! The BBC cannot believe Nistor Mihai preferred the Olympics over big a big money contract right now in the here and now to turn pro. Neither can this reporter. Nistor Mihai apparently does not wish to turn pro, and least not yet, not before he has one more run at Olympic gold at the 2020 XXXII Olympics Games in which will be held in Tokyo, Japan, between July 24, 2020, and August 9, 2020.
