Chocolatito’s Manager Seeks Rematch

This past week Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez lost a decision to Srisaket Sor Rungvisai but the decision was controversial to fans and critics alike. Now Chocolatito’s manager, Carlos Bandon, is looking for an immediate rematch. When Bandon arrived in Nicaragua he said that Chocolatito had been robbed.

“Since they stole the fight, we’re going to get the title back,” Blandon told El Nuevo Diario, a Managua newspaper. “We hope an immediate rematch comes. We’re going to see what’s going to happen.”

There was no rematch clause in the contract and the WBC mandated before the fight that winner would be fighting against Carlos Cuadras. It looks like Chocolatito might have to wait in line before he gets a chance to redeem himself.

Andre Ward New Mandatory?

Andre Ward won a controversial decision last year against Sergey Kovalev and ever since then Kovalev has been demanding a rematch. Artur Beterbiev (11-0, 11 KOs) has made it clear that he will fight anyone to become Ward’s IBF mandatory. The IBF has contacted several fighters including Sergey Kovalev to fight in a final eliminator match against Beterbiev and most of the fighters have rejected the fight. The fighters have until Thursday March 23 at 5 pm to make an official response to the IBF. Kovalev has no need to fight Beterbiev because he already has a contracted rematch clause with Ward. It would be a shame if some way, some how Beterbiev got the a fight with Ward before Kovalev got a rematch.

Brook vs Spence Official

Kell Brook vs Errol Spence Jr. was announced today at a press conference in Sheffield, England. The fight is set to take place in on May 27 at the Bramall Lane stadium in Sheffield. At the press conference things got a little heated when Spence started talk smack about Brook.

During the conference Spence said:

“You’re a clown. You had two good rounds with GGG and you are living off that.”

“How long you been pro and you only fought two fighters since you been pro? Shawn Porter and GGG.”

“I’m going to knock you out and take that belt.”

“I’m coming here to take the title. I feel like I’m a better fighter than him. A true champion wants to take the title form a true champion, not a vacated title.”

“I want to beat the champion to become a champion. That is what true champions do.”

During the conference Brook said:

“He’s American and they’ve given him a lot of hype. He’s made a big mistake He has been looking very good in fights, but he’s bitten off more than he can chew when he steps in with me.”

“He’s got some skills, a good amateur pedigree and he looks the part, but he’s come to the final hurdle and that’s me.”

“I’m champion of the world, and it’s a dream come true fighting at Bramall Lane. I’m going to get so much energy from the fans, and I’m on point with the weight.”

Kovalev vs Ward Negotiations

Andre Ward won a controversial decision last year against Sergey Kovalev and ever since then Kovalev has been demanding a rematch. Today Kovalev tweeted that he received a contract from Ward’s promoter, Roc Nation, and that he is now waiting for Ward to sign the contract.

The tweet said “Couple days ago I have signed new memo for rematch which was send to me by @RocNation. Still waiting on ‘SonofJudges’ to sign it.@Main_Events”

If the rematch were to occur who do you have your money on?

Mikey Garcia Move In Weight

WBC Lightweight Champion Mikey Garcia is planning to unify the 135 pound division in 2017 but in early 2018 he looks to move up in weight to 140 lbs. Garcia plans to move up to 140 lbs but he will happily delay this move if he gets a fight with Vasyl Lomachenko at 135 lbs.

“I want to clean out the division in 2017, that’s the plan.. to become the best. In a perfect world [that’s what will happen this year], and then in 2018 I’ll jump up to super lightweight. Next year if there are no attractive fights at lightweight, then I will go up to super lightweight. Although if Vasyl Lomachenko comes up, for example, I could stay a little longer” Garcia told ESPN Deportes.

Linares vs Corolla

Jorge Linares retained his WBA Lightweight title against Anthony Crolla on Saturday night. Linares outclassed Crolla a majority of the fight and won by unanimous decision. The highlight of the fight was when Linares knocked Crolla down in the seventh round with an uppercut. The Crolla got up and continued the fight but he didn’t get close to returning the favor. All the judges scored the fight 118-112 in favor of Linares. It looks like Linares might be fighting Mikey Garcia next in a unification bout.

Mayweather on Golovkin

Floyd Mayweather was not at all impressed by Gennady Golovkin’s performance last week against Daniel Jacobs. In an interview with Fighthype.com, Mayweather said that if he were still an active fighter he would have fought and beat Golovkin. Mayweather also talk about how Jacobs could have a couple things differently to win the fight.

“When I was overseas I seen another fighter fight and I thought he came up short. Ya’ll know who we’re talking about…. Triple L, because he lost three times to me. Triple G he can punch, he’s a good puncher. But I may need to train Danny Jacobs because Danny Jacobs.. he could have got the job done a lot better. I could have shown him how to get the job done a lot better. But Danny Jacobs put of a hell of a fight. He’s a hell of a fighter. Triple G is a hell of a fighter. It was a good matchup,” Mayweather told Fighthype.com.

“I came out of retirement for one fighter, and that’s Conor McGregor. But if I was still active in the fight game, ya’ll already know. I don’t have to tell the fans what I would do. I’d put the work in on that boy. To me, it’s all about the big money fights.. who is he?”

Saunders Wants Golovkin

Gennady Golovkin is one belt away from becoming the undisputed champion at 160 lbs and the only man in his way is Billy Joe Saunders who has the WBO belt. No need to fear Billy Joe Saunders running from this fight because he wants it just as bad as Golovkin. In a recent interview Saunders expressed that he is ready now more than ever and that he doesn’t want to wait.

“When I’m in shape, with time on my hands to get fit and look good people need a rest. I don’t know if it is old age catching up. My pen is in my hand ready to sign but I want it to be done for Friday because I want to move on. I can’t be bothered to sit around and wait another six months – I’ve got to get on with my career. So Golovkin, if you have got a pair of balls then let’s sign the contract and fight” said Saunders.

According to Golovkin’s trainer, Abel Sanchez, Golovkin is looking to win that last belt and then afterwards moving up in weight. Will Golovkin be just as successful at 168 lbs?
