BRANDON RIOS VS. VICTOR ORTIZ IS ANNOUNCED
Los Angeles, CA (November 29th, 2016)– Ricky Funez the trainer of Brandon Rios announced that former champions Brandon Rios (33-3-1, 24KOs) and Victor Ortiz (31-6-2, 24KOs) will finally fight on February 4th at a LA venue to be named later. The Staples Center or the Stub Hub has been mentioned. ESN News reported the news on their you tube channel earlier today. You can watch the announcement on the video below.
Rios and Ortiz have a longstanding feud with each other that first began when they were young fighters who were both training with Garcia. In the past, Rios claims that Ortiz allegedly made a hit on his life by sending people to pull a pistol on Rios. This has to be one of the craziest story lines in boxing history. Rios also claims he used to make Ortiz cry in sparring when they were teenagers.
Ortiz went in his own direction, while Rios stayed with Garcia for his entire career until recently, when he parted ways with Garcia and hired Ricky Funez. Rios is also a free agent after recently parting ways with longtime promoter Top Rank.
Ortiz has been out of the ring since getting knocked out by Andre Berto in four rounds back in April. He had Berto down in the second, but then packed it in after getting dropped in the fourth.
Rios last fought in November 2015 when he was stopped by TKO by Tim Bradley. This was the first time he was stopped and it was possibly due to a bad weight cut where he had to cut 40 pounds right before the fight.
