Carl Frampton Interview: Santa Cruz Can Come to Belfast

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

In a Real Combat Media international interview exclusive, World Boxing Association Super World Featherweight champion Carl ‘The Jackal’ Frampton, after his win over Leo Santa Cruz at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, spoke on the immediate future, and the possibility of a rematch with Santa Cruz in his native Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Robert Brizel: “Carl, were you excited to be fighting in the United States?”

Carl Frampton: “It’s my second time (in the United States). I fought in Texas before.”

Robert Brizel: “Were you satisfied with your performance?”

Carl Frampton: “It was a great performance. I redeemed myself. Now, a lot of people know how good I really am (my bout with Leo Santa Cruz was on Showtime around the world).”

Robert Brizel: “Were you excited that all the people came over from Belfast to see you?”

Carl Frampton: “Of course! You always need to bring a lot of people, a lot of atmosphere, and a lot of noise.”

Robert Brizel: “Did Leo Santa Cruz try to out psych you during the fight?”

Carl Frampton: “Of course. I had to dig in deep for a couple of rounds. I felt it not.”

Robert Brizel: “Did you expect Santa Cruz would show up and bring it to the table? Did you expect him to bring it all? What kind of a fight did you expect (from him)?”

Carl Frampton: “I expected a hard camp of preparation (would be necessary) to win. My team and I had a hard camp. We knew he (Leo Santa Cruz) was a very good fighter. I knew it was going to be a very hard fight, and that’s the way it was.”

Robert Brizel: “Would you like to defend this title in (your hometown of) Belfast next? What’s in your heart? Would you like to go back to Belfast?”

Carl Frampton: “I love Belfast! I want to go home and do that (defend my title). I want to go (fight next at) home.”

Robert Brizel: “Thanks so much and all the best!”

Carl Frampton: “Thank you.”
