Andre Ward vs. Alexander Brand Recap And Post Press Conference

Oakland, California (August 6, 2016)— The return of Andre Ward to the Oracle Arena, was a success as everyone expected. The Oakland native Improves his record to 30-0, 15 KOs, after defeating Alexander Brand (25-2, 19 KOs) via unanimous decision. All three judges scored the bout 120-108. The fight was televised on HBO.
Ward and Brand were suppose to face each other back in November, but that fight was called off after Ward suffered a knee injury during camp. The two finally met in the square circle in front of over 8,000 fans, right in the backyard of Andre Ward. The outcome of the fight ended how the whole boxing world expected it to end, and that would be a big dominant performance by Ward. From the start of the first bell, Andre Ward showcased his offensive and defensive abilities. He stuck and moved all over Brand, who only landed a little over 40 punches on Ward.
Andre worked Alexander Brand very well. He connected the body of Brand from a southpaw stance. Something you don’t see too often from Ward, but his ability to switch thugs up can become an issue for Kovalev.
After defeating Alexander Brand with ease, Andre Ward knew what was coming. Sergey Kovalev sat ringside to study his future opponent. Both fighters signed a contract back in April stating that they both will fave a tune up fight prior to their meeting in November. Kovalev went on to face Issac Chilemba and defeated him via unanimous decision. Now that both Kovalev and Ward have taken care of their duties, we can now focus on what’s next for both of the fighters. The next big thing in boxing is the fight between the two.
The boxing world will now get a special treat. Two of the best undefeated pound-for-pound champions will go head-to-head to determine who will be the pound-for-pound King.
“I am excited, man. I am looking forward to it. I want to be the light heavyweight champion of the world. I got past this step. He got past his step. We will see you in November. I have been doing this for 22 years and if I am not ready to fight the best now then I will never be ready. I have been preparing for these moments since I been a kid. You got to respect Sergey for the way he has gotten to where he has gotten. He didn’t have any soft touches. He wasn’t protected. He wasn’t really pushed by the media. He is a guy who should get a lot more credit than he has. The winner of this fight could possibly be pound-for-pound #1.” Said Andre Ward.
