REAL COMBAT MEDIA UK: GUILLERMO RIGONDEAUX VS JAZZA DICKENS RECAP.

By Rashid Sa’di-Real Combat Media UK Head Editor:

Manchester, UK, (17th of July 2016)– Guillermo Rigondeaux stops Jazza Dicken’s in a effortless anti-climatic manner after Jazza Dickens refused to come out for the 3rd round after suffering a broken jaw in the second round.

Both fighters were extremely tentative, cagey and refused to commit fully to their punches. Rigondeaux refused to put together combinations, and was content to land single shots. From the first round Rigondeaux seemed to not get out of first gear and was content to hold the centre of the ring and wait to counter Dickens. Jazza was showing a lot of feints and different looks and both fighters never stayed on the ropes for a prolonged period of time. Rigondeaux was very sharp and economical, and didn’t waste any punches or energy whatsoever. Jazza seemed very focused but also quite erratic. By the end of the first round neither combatant landed a significant combination. However Rigondeaux landed a a few left hand counters and was comfortably winning the round. In the second round both of the fighter started tentative and midway through the round at least 30 seconds went by where literally no fighter landed a punch. And then towards the end of the second round Rigondeaux landed a combination which ended with a flush left hand. That left hand snapped Jazza’s jaw however Jazza didn’t seem to react to the punch until he was in his corner and his corner-men waved off the fight.

So where next for Rigondeaux now? According to Frank Warren he will fight again in UK shores around August/September time although an opponent must be announced soon. In terms of his career trajectory time is running out for him to secure a big super-fight which rewards him financially for the level of skill and talent he possesses. Such is the unfair nature of the sport the top fighters in his division like Frampton and Santa Cruz can avoid him and unfortunately he won’t be re-compensated for his amazing talent. So he’s next fight will be on a Frank Warren card against a legitimate but limited fighter in Warren’s stable. Unfortunately unless an opportunity comes out of the blue which can benefit Rigondeaux financially. But that does’nt seem like the case in the near future unfortunately.
