Barrios vs. Boschiero ESPN Premier Boxing Champions Trenton Preview

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Trenton, NJ (July 9th, 2016)– USA ESPN Sports Television, Premier Boxing Champions and Kings Promotions will present an exciting seven bout card of professional boxing at Sun National Bank center in Trenton, New Jersey, on Saturday evening, July 9, 2016, featuring the ten round super featherweight main event bout between contenders Mario Barrios and Devis Boschiero.

Barrios, age 21, 15-0 with eight knockouts, San Antonio, Texas, is coming off an eight round decision win over Edgar Gabejan at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York in April 2016. Boschiero, age 34, 39-4 with 31 knockouts, Correzzola, Italy, is a former European super featherweight champion, and is coming off a fifth round stoppage win over Tamas Laska in Italy in March 2016. Barrios has youth. Boschiero has experience. Barrios is favored to win by 12 round majority decision if the fight goes the distance. If it doesn’t go the distance, power hitter Boschiero could stop Barrios if he is not defensively careful.

In the preliminary bout to the man event, Eddie Ramirez is favored to win by ten round unanimous decision over Jessie Roman. Ramirez, 13-0 with nine knockouts, Aurura, Illinois, is coming off a second round stoppage win over Osumanu Akaba at Trump Taj Mahal this past April. Roman, 20-1 with nine knockouts, Santa Ana, California, is coming off an eight round decision win over Hector Serrano at Rtaples Center in Los Angeles in October 2015. Ramirez is favored over Roman by eight round unanimous decision in what should be a hard fought technical bout.

Kazakh super welterweight prospect Zhankosh Turarov, 18-0 with 13 knockouts, Pahokee, Florida, is favored to win by third round knockout over Daniel Sousa Santos, 15-10 with 12 k knockouts, Sao Paulo, Brazil, who at age 40 managed to knockout a 6-39-3 fighter in his last outing, but is not on Turarov’s level. Turarov won the vacant National Boxing Association World Welterweight title by stopping Joaquin Carneiro in the first round of his last bout in January 2016. Rurarov, at this point, is worthy of better opposition.

Philadelphia squares off against Atlantic City, with Philly light heavyweight prospect Christopher Brooker, 9-1 with six knockouts, squaring off against Gabriel Pham, 6-0 with two knockouts, Atlantic City, New Jersey. Pham’s record is padded to this point, and Brooker will stop him within five rounds as Pham is not yet ready for an eight rounder.

In six rounds, former New York City Featherweight Golden Gloves champion Titus Williams, 5-0, Elmont, Long Island, New York, is favored by six round unanimous decision over 7-7 journeyman Jovany Fuentes of Bayamon, Puerto Rico in a close bout.  5-0 southpaw super lightweight Tyrone Crawley of Philadelphia is favored by six round unanimous decision over 4-2 Alexander Charneco of Puerto Rico. In the opening bout of the ESPN card, MMA fighter Kyle ‘The Hurtz’ Kurtz, 6-2 as an MMA fighter, Jackson, Missouri, is favored by four round unanimous decision over 1-0-1 Daryl Bunting of Asbury Park, New York. Kurtz has two knockouts and four submissions, according to the Sherdog martial arts website. It will be interesting to see as to how that translates into boxing, favorable or not.
