Boxing Writer Jack Obermeyer Dies at 72

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing correspondent

It with great sadness and respect this reporter notes the passing of boxing writer Jack Obermeyer at age 72 last Saturday. A reporter of over half a century in boxing, Jack covered thousands of boxing cards in 49 states in over 400 cities. Whenever this reporter was in press row, Jack was alongside, covering cards neutrally and doing his best. I do remember when faces disappear, and I acknowledge Jack’s quiet yet meaningful and knowledgeable presence. He will be missed. Jack wrote for Ring Magazine, Boxing Illustrated, Boxing Digest, and USA Boxing among other publications during his long as distinguished career. Funeral services are tentatively scheduled for Thursday June 30, 2016, at The Harmon Funeral Home, 571 Forest Avenue, Staten Island, New York.
