Luke Rockhold vs. Michael Bisping is Set For UFC 199
Las Vegas, NV (May 18th, 2016)– UFC president Dana White confirmed on ESPN’s SportsCenter that Michael Bisping on two weeks notice will rematch Luke Rockhold (15-2) in the main event on Saturday, June 4th at The Forum in Inglewood, California. Yesterday Chris Weidman suffered a neck injury in training.
Jacare Ronaldo Souza was the leading option to fight Rockhold, but a meniscus issue took him out of the running.
Bisping (28-7) will finally get the title shot he has sought for years, albeit on short notice. The TUF 3 winner last fought in February, defeating the legendary Anderson Silva by unanimous decision in the UFC London main event. He’s won his last 3 fights overall, also defeated Thales Leites and C.B. Dollaway . His last loss was a guillotine choke vs. Luke Rockhold at UFC Brisbane in November 2014. That fight was his only submission loss of his career.
After 10 years, 25 UFC fights, multiple times of being close to a title shot, Bisping is just 17 days away from finally competing for a UFC championship in a rematch .
