Former USBA Cruiserweight champion Garrett ‘The Ultimate Warrior’ Wilson 16-10-1, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in an exclusive interview ringside last weekend in Philadelphia, formally called out 15-1-1 Chicago cruiserweight Junior Wright and Detroit promoter Dmitriy Salita to fight him 10 or 12 rounds for the vacant International Boxing Organization USBO cruiserweight title later this year, in Detroit, Philadelphia, or wherever Salita wants.

Wilson stated during the interview Junior Wright would pay dearly if he stepped in the ring, and added promoter Dmitriy Salita is afraid of him. Salita contacted Wilson’s management-and offered peanuts to fight Wright in a six rounder in Niagara Falls. According to Wilson, the real reason Salita contacted Wilson’s management is because he is afraid of Wilson, and doesn’t want to pay Wilson’s five thousand dollar payday, as well as the USBO sanctioning fee required for Wilson to appear-and knock Salita’s fighter out.

Robert Brizel:Dmitriy Salita started this process by proposing you fight his cruiserweight, Chicago Golden Gloves champion Junior Wright.”

Garrett Wilson: “Yes, and I am willing to fight anybody and everybody, but not too many people are willing to fight me.”

Robert Brizel: “When exactly were you contacted by Salita’s people about a fight with Junior Wright? What was your reaction to it? At some point, the people in Salita’s camp contacted you about the possibility of a fight in Niagara Falls.”

Garrett Wilson: “I’m always game, as long as it’s fair.”

Robert Brizel: “What do you think would be a fair fight for this? Ten rounds to fight Junior Wright for the WBO NABO cruiserweight title?”

Junior Wright: “Absolutely. It’s a very marketable fight. It’s a fight everyone would enjoy seeing, and it’s only right that it is a ten round fight.”

Robert Brizel: “Do you think it should be a proper six to eight weeks (training camp) for both you and Wright, rather than a last minute fight opportunity?”

Garrett Wilson: “Of course. This guy is a Grade A (world class) fighter. I’m a Grade A (world class) fighter. I want this fight to be prepared for properly, because I don’t him to come in with no excuses. I’m trying to find somebody out there who is willing to fight me. There’s not too many guys out there who are willing to fight me.”

Robert Brizel: “I’ve spoken to the Junior Wright camp, Rick Wilson (his trainer) and Steve Clemente (his manager). They are very willing to fight you-any day, any place (at) any time. But the conditions originally set (offered) for this fight by Dmitriy Salita were for you and Wright to fight a six rounder against each other for chump change. The terms were not acceptable to them. Were those acceptable to you either?”

Garrett Wilson: “No, of course not. It doesn’t make any sense. We’re both Grade A fighters. We’re both entertaining, crowd pleasing fighters.”

Robert Brizel: “When do you think would be a good time for this fight to take place? Sometime between June (2016) and the end of the summer (2016)?”

Garrett Wilson: “Yeah. I think that is a perfect time.”

Robert Brizel: “On May 27, 2016, in Niagara Falls, on the Greg Cohen boxing card which is being televised from Seneca Niagara Resort and Casino by USA CBS Sports Network, Junior Wright is scheduled to fight next, the card where you were offered the six rounder. Junior Wright previously fought for the IBO Cruiserweight world title in Russia. Dmitriy Salita has a history of working with supervisor Hilton Whittaker III, who also handles the IBO USBO. Have you fought any fights for any IBO or USBO belts before, Garrett?

Garrett Wilson: “The International Boxing Organization or the United States Boxing Organization? Not yet. Hopefully in the near future, for that particular vacant USBO cruiserweight belt we’re talking about right now.”

Robert Brizel: ““So that would be an interesting belt stake. The IBO USBO cruiserweight title, with a chance perhaps to fight in Germany against Marco Huck for the IBO World Cruiserweight title to the winner. For real!”

Garrett Wilson: “I would love that. Heh, heh, heh.”

Robert Brizel: “Glowacki, who beat Marco Huck for the WBO belt, just fought Steve Cunningham and won. Did you see that fight?”

Garrett Wilson: “Yes I did.”

Robert Brizel: “Do you think you did a better job than Steve? Where did he go wrong?”

Garrett Wilson: “Steve did a good job. I feel as though I’m a different fight style than Steve Cunningham, so I think my fight style would be better suited for this particular person.”

Robert Brizel:Junior Wright (age 29) is a little bit younger than you are Garrett (33). Do you think that his age would give him a particular advantage, in terms of fighting you?”

Garrett Wilson: “Not at all. Age doesn’t mean anything because I’m so vibrant, and I’m not like just over the hill just yet!”

Robert Brizel: “I think this (Junior Wright versus Garrett Wilson) would be a very exciting television fight. I think this would be a very exciting matchup, because I’ve never known you to duck anybody. In particular, they (The Junior Wright camp) want the fight. They want to fight you. So let’s hear you call out Junior Wright, and make a prediction in a ten round USBO cruiserweight title fight. What do you think is going to happen to Junior Wright if you fight him? Make a prediction?”

Garrett Wilson: “Well, the reality is I had a very small amount of amateur fights, and Wright is a Chicago Golden Gloves champion with an extensive amateur background, so this is actually my challenge here. Showing from the fights I’ve had, like my last fight with Keith Tapia which went ten rounds (Tapia recently lost a vacant NABF title cruiserweight bout to Andrew Tabiti), I’m growing as a fighter. So any fighter I’m gonna get in the ring with me is gonna pay dearly.”

Robert Brizel: “Now, Wright had a fight with Stivens Bujaj. Have you seen the footage?”

Garrett Wilson: No.”

Robert Brizel: “Wright fought a draw for the vacant WBC International Cruiserweight title, and in that fight, Bujaj had Wright in serious trouble in the tenth round. Have you seen footage on that fight before? Do you think that this fighter is able to compete with you at a ten round pace? Do you think he’s actually ready for a fight like this-or do you think it is one fight too soon for him?”

Garrett Wilson: “Well, the reality is I had a very small amount of amateur fights, so this is actually my challenge here. Showing from the fights I’ve had, like my last fight with Keith Tapia (which went ten rounds) I’m growing as a fighter. So any fighter I’m gonna get in the ring with is gonna pay dearly.”

Robert Brizel: “So, if Junior Wright fights you, before the fight is over, you predict he’ll pay dearly?”

Garrett Wilson: “Absolutely.”

Robert Brizel: “Alright. Call Junior Wright out and tell why you want to fight him?”

Garrett Wilson:Junior Wright I need those belts, I want those belts, you don’t deserve those belts. Those belts are mine! You are going to sleep if you get in the ring with me!”

Robert Brizel: “I certainly hope we can put this fight together. What would you say to promoter Dmitriy Salita about a ten round IBO USBO vacant cruiserweight fight? Why do you think this would be such a good fight to put together for promoter Salita?”

Garrett Wilson: “Well, the reality is everyone has seen me fight. Salita is afraid to risk his fighter. You can Google me. You can rumble. You know I get down. You know every fight I’ve been in has been exciting. Every fight I’ve been in has the crowd’s attention and the television viewer’s attention, so you know it’s gonna make money! So bring your fighter, Dmitriy Salita, bring the WBO USBO belt, and let me put that work in.”

Robert Brizel: “There you have it, former USBA champion Garrett Wilson, calling out cruiserweight Junior Wright and promoter Dmitriy Salita and Salita Promotions for a vacant USBO cruiserweight title bout this summer, if Dmitriy Salita accepts the challenge. The Junior Wright corner has already accepted the bout.”

Garrett Wilson: “Thank you.”
