Who’s Got The Power? Joey Dawejko vs David Rodriguez Heavyweight Dream Fight

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Heavyweight David ‘Nino’ Rodriguez, 37-2 with 35 knockouts, age 38, El Paso, Texas, returned to the ring successfully with a first round of Gilberto Domingos in Salt Lake City, Utah, last November 2015. Joey Dawejko, Philadelphia’s hard hitting heavyweight, age 25, 16-4 with nine knockouts, fought to an eight round draw with Ytalo Perea at Sands Bethlehem Events Center last month. Dawejko has six first round knockouts in his last eight bouts, which speaks for power.

Who’s got the power? Specifically who has more power, Dawejko or Rodriguez? At 6’4”, Rodriguez would enjoy a six inch height advantage to the 5’10 Dawejko. Rodriguez has a 79 inch reach to Dawejko’s 70 inch reach. Dawejko’s issue is this: he wins if he takes them out in the first round. What if he doesn’t? Dawejko has a ten round loss and a six round draw in his last eight bouts when his opponent did not go.

Rodriguez might not go quietly if he shows up. Dawejko versus Rodriguez would be a must win crossroads bout for both heavyweights. The odds favor Dawejko if he gets off first. An eight round bout between Dawejko and Rodriguez would be a great way to settle the question of which of these two heavyweight bomb throwers still has the power, and can prove it. This would also be a great vacant USBO Heavyweight title bout.

One thing is certain. If Dawejko fights Rodriguez, it will be heavyweight bombs away like two rock’em sock’em robots in a George Foreman versus Ron Lyle type slugfest. There will be knockdowns, and somebody has got to go. Who let the dogs out? Who? Who? Who? If Dawejko’s injured shoulder heals, we’ll let you know if this fight can happen later in 2016.
