Boxing Secrets: The Donald Trump to Iron Mike Tyson Republican Connection
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
New York, NY (March 20th, 2016)– As the presidential campaign year raps up, Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, Governor John Kasich, Senator Rafael ‘Ted’ Cruz, Hillary Clinton, Senator Bernie Sanders, and Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland are dominating the headlines.
More mysterious are the presidential endorsements enjoyed by billionaire Donald Trump. New York Yankees such as Paul O’Neill and Johnny Damon, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, actors Scott Baio and Jerry Lewis and Jon Voight and Gary Busey, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, billionaire Steve Wynn, The National Enquirer, Hulk Hogan, Dennis Rodman, Wayne Newton, Kid Rock, Ted Nugent, Kenny Rogers, Loretta Lynn, and former presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson, a possible running mate.
Where does Mike Tyson come into the Donald Trump Republican campaign?
Tyson fought some of his biggest bouts in Trump Hotel Casinos. Trump bid a record $11 million site fee for the right of his hotels to Tyson’s 1988 world heavyweight title unification showdown with Michael Spinks, at the time was the richest fight in boxing history. When Tyson was later convicted of rape and sentenced to six years in prison, Trump proposed Tyson should be allowed to keep fighting with some of the proceeds of his bouts going to rape victims and some to Trump. The arrangement would have benefited Trump’s casinos financially. Boxing commission officials deemed it an inappropriate type of partnership.
Trump helped Tyson at the time with his court case. Trump and Tyson have been close friends for over 30 years. The critical question is how can Tyson, a convert to Islam and devout Muslim since his incarceration and subsequent release, support ‘The Donald’, who has proposed a ban on all Muslims entering the United States. While Tyson has stated publically he does not think a ban of Muslims entering the United States would ever be approved by Congress, or Trump would really do a thing like that, Mike does believe Trump can be president.
Of all of Donald Trump endorsements, Iron Mike Tyson has gotten the least attention.
As the presidential primaries rap up, and the nominating process will soon be upon the American people, Iron Mike Tyson could be a candidate for our international sports ambassador for the Donald Trump White House. Goes the old expression from the speech by Mark Antony in the play ‘Julius Caesar’ by William Shakespeare, “Friends, Romans, Countrymen, lend me your ears.” Tyson has already taken part of Evander Holyfield’s ear.
To what extent Iron Mike Tyson is involved in the presidential process soon to evolve remains an incredible mystery between him and Donald Trump, a secret certain to be of greater public interest, as the most publicity mad presidential election yet in American history plays itself out to the bitter end in the next nine months of 2016. Someone has to win. Or as the song by the Baha Men goes, “Who Let the Dogs Out? Who? Who? Who?”
