DAVID LEMIEUX PPV FIGHT WITH DE LA ROSA
By Montreal Gazette
Montreal, Canada (March 11th, 2016)– Former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux won’t be making his comeback Saturday night after all.
Lemieux was scheduled to face American James De La Rosa in the 10-round main event at the Olympia Theatre at a catch-weight of 163 pounds. While De La Rosa made weight, at 162, Lemieux came in at 165.6.
Despite negotiations between Camille Estephan, Lemieux’s promoter, and Adrian Clark, who manages De La Rosa, an agreement couldn’t be reached.
Estephan said he offered De La Rosa a 40-per-cent increase on his undisclosed purse — a figure Clark denied.
Estephan is attempting to find another opponent for Lemieux, but vowed the show will go on. If necessary, Estephan said a bout between Steven Butler and Sladjan Janjanin, would be the 10-round main event.
ZAB JUDAH CARD CANCELLED
Las Vegas, Nevada (March 11th, 2016)– Former multiple-division boxing world champion Zab Judah will have to wait even longer to make his return to the ring.
Judah was set to fight Josh Torres on Saturday night at Downtown Las Vegas Events Center, however the entire card has been canceled. The cancellation is because a few fighters were reportedly ineligible to compete on the CBS Sports Network-broadcast show.
“Last night, I received multiple calls from the Nevada Athletic Commission regarding eligibility concerns,” said Derek Stevens, CEO of the D Las Vegas and DLVEC in an email statement. “After our discussions, it became apparent the fight card could not move forward. Although I’m disappointed with the situation, I appreciate the phone calls and look forward to working with the Nevada Athletic Commission on future boxing events at the DLVEC.”
Ticket-holders from the event will receive a full refund. This is the second fight that has been cancelled in the Zab Judah comeback. In November Judah’s fight was cancelled when his opponent pulled out.
Real Combat Media has just learned that Zab Judah has been suspended for falsifying license documents to the Nevada athletic state commission.
