Atlantic City, NJ (February 20th, 2016)– An exciting showcase of young prospects was featured on Showtime ShoBox: The Next Generation in the Adrian Phillips Ballroom of Boardwalk Hall on Friday evening, February 19, 2016. The Atlantic City Hall of Fame presented several awards before the televised portion of the event. The real story of the night were three draws which resulted in bouts which appeared anything but. Showtime showcased some of the best prospects seen in a long time. Perhaps the judges were swayed by the potential of the prospects.

In the World Boxing Association ten round televised main event, Adam Lopez, 15-0 with seven knockouts, San Antonio, Texas, retained his WBA Fedelatin Super Bantamweight belt with a ten round decision over Mario Munoz, 16-1-1 with ten knockouts, Guadalajara, Mexico. Lopez survived a cut over his right eye in his third ShoBox appearance, while the unknown Munoz appeared unmarked and comported himself well. The Lopez corner complained about numerous dirty tactics by Lopez. The Munoz camp loudly complained about the scoring in the bout, which they felt was far closer than the cards emerged.

Result: Adam Lopez Win 10 Mario Munoz, Super Bantamweights

Lopez retains the WBA Super Bantamweight Fedelatin title.

Scoring: 97-93, 98-92, and 98-92 for Lopez. Referee: Ricardo Vera

In the co-main event, super middleweight prospect Ronald Ellis, now 13-0, ten knockouts, Lynn, Massachusetts, drew with  Jerry Odom, 14-2 with 12 knockouts, Washington, D.C. Odom remained calm and patient, picked his head and body shots meticulously, while Ellis taunted Odom throughout. Odom landed 55 body punches to Ellis’ 32. Ellis landed 154 overall punches to Odom’s 131. Ellis landed 114 power punches to Odom’s 109. However, Ellis appeared to win only the second round on this reporter’s scorecard, which he dominated with power punches. The rest of the bout appeared Odom’s all the way. Press at ringside were in agreement over who won the bout. It all depended on how you saw it.

Result: Ronald Ellis Majority Draw 8 Jerry Odom, Super Middleweights

Scoring: 78-74 Ellis, 76-76, 76-76 Draw. Referee: Eddie Claudio

Hard hitting John Magda, 11-0-1 with seven knockouts, Rutherford, New Jersey, appeared to be thoroughly outboxed by Christopher Brooker, 7-1-1 with five knockouts, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Brooker landed 151 punches to Magda’s 78. Brooker landed 133 power punches to 70 by Magda. Brooker connected with 40 body shots to Magda’s 27. In the end, one judge strangely had Magda ahead. It made no sense to the press at ringside.

Result: John Magda Majority Draw 6 Christopher Brooker, Super Middleweights

Scoring: 77-74 for Magda. 76-76, and 76-76 Draw. Referee: Shada Murdaugh
