By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
He has fought 125 pro bouts since he turned pro at age 15 in July 1987, winning 105 bouts, losing 17 and drawing three, with 81 knockouts. His career highlights include opening his career at 56-0 with 50 knockouts, stopping 27-0 Tony Ayala Jr., drawing with Hector ‘Macho’ Camacho Sr., and stopping Raul Marquez to win the IBF World Super Welterweight championship.
Luis Ramon’ Yori Boy Campas fought in ten major and minor world championship bouts during his distinguished 29 year career. A native of Navajoa, Mexico, now living in Montana, his career will end with a bang this weekend in Montana where he now resides.
Campas, age 44, is going to retire, and will end his career on Saturday, January 23, 2016, by fighting a ten rounder at the Civic Center in Butte, Montana, against Minnesota’s Anthony Bonsante, age 45, 34-12-3 with 18 knockouts, in what will probably prove the final career bout for both contestants. Bonsante is the only fighter besides Campas to have beaten the late Tony Ayala Jr., so their super welterweight matchup is a fair one.
Campas was one of Mexico’s gamest warriors. He figured into five IBF World Super Welterweight title bouts as world champion between 1997 and 1998, and also fought for the vacant WBO World Super Welterweight title in 2002.
Campas is predicted to defeat Bonsante by majority decision over ten rounds. Best of luck to both combatants in the ring tomorrow night and with their rest of their life, as their ring careers come to the final bell of competition.
